adventure (171)

Riding a motorbike from the North to the South of Vietnam was an amazing experience. Now, while I didn’t ride the motorcycle on myself (Anthony did an amazing job!) it is still something that will remain with me for the rest of my life.

Each day we were faced with new challenges and amazing sights making the journey all the more incredible. I think what made it so momentous was the simple fact that we were in control of where we wanted to go on the trip. It didn’t have to be governed by train and

Why You Need to Visit Vietnam

by Audrey

If you only have time to explore one country in Southeast Asia, choose
VIETNAM!

Let’s admit it, when it comes to travel, Vietnam gets a bit of a bad rep. Before coming here all I heard were stories of travel scams, robberies, aggressive touts, and warnings that I’d be treated like a walking dollar sign. I was beginning to wonder whether I even wanted to spend a full month in this country, but 31 days later as my Vietnamese visa is about to expire, I am sad to leave Vietnam behind.

Traveling to discover - the essence of adventure - is what I seek to capture with this idea.

It all started when I first learned, six years ago, that chilies were from South America, not, as I always assumed, Asia.

After I accepted that fact, which shook my worldview, I searched long and hard for a book that would tell this story. I wanted to know HOW this was possible. After all, there are similar books for Salt, Potatoes, Chocolate, even Apples, all of which I've now read.

And there are many boo

Paracas and Ica: Jewels of desert

However, the privilege of having the Pacific Ocean bathes its shores, allows, specifically Paracas, to have beautiful beaches with blue and turquoise waters. Deserts, beaches, vineyards and stories of witches is what awaits you if you dare to visit.

Here I present the tour that placeOK recomm

Kayak Tourism in Vietnam

According to the Central Intelligence Agency's 2011 World Fact Book, Vietnam ranks seventh in the world in terms of navigable rivers, canals and inland bodies of water. When you compare the size of most of the countries above it on the list, which includes the United States, Russia and China, you realize how much water Vietnam has per square mile. All this water means plenty of kayaking opportunities, but there are just a handful of established kayak tourism points in Vietnam.

Praise from a jury of my peers!

I am absolutely over the top with the response from the Vagablogging reviewer for Rolf Potts.

Linda Ballou’s Lost Angel Walkabout isn’t your standard collection of travel essays. At first impression it reads more like nature writing than anything else. Sure, most travelers are drawn to the scenic beauty of the countries they visit, or a powerful sea or desert expanse. However, Ballou brings an intelligent meditation to her travels in the wilderness. Her pages express a deep appreciation of natu
