The wedding day of Will and Kate is over, but the occasion is still very much alive in London.  Everywhere I go, people are talking about it...where they watched it, how lovely the dress was, how sad it was that Diana wasn't there to see it, how poised the young couple was, how wonderful it is for the country.  The shop windows are full of their congratulations, and the street parties carry on for another day.

The Royal Wedding was very much the theme in Harrods, the Knightsbridge department s

I had a wonderful opportunity of traveling in an airline that’s, well let’s just say different from the other leading airlines. I am talking about Sir Richard Branson’s well-thought out creation, Virgin America. So, what’s so different about Virgin America? Well, for one, the airplanes have a unique interior to them. It doesn’t feel like you’re entering into a regular airplane. The mood lighting throughout the airplane and the elegant seats add to the sleek interior.

Now, I am somewhat of a scare

William and Kate’s Guide to London

Prince-William-%2526-Kate-Middl.jpg
Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s wedding in 1981 was as much of a landmark event as the Moon Landing, everyone remembers where they were when the shy young girl married the stiff heir to the British throne (and whether or not they thought the union would last).
This year, it’s their elder son’s turn down the aisle, as the most eligible royal bachelor in the world—Prince William, marries his long-term girlfriend, “Waity” Kate Middleton, at Westminster Abbey on April 29. British tourism chiefs expec

Tapeña Comes to New York

by Denise Mattia

IN VINO VERITAS

Finally there’s a Spanish wine that suits most palates.  Branded Tapeña, it’s a clever combination of the Spanish word Tapas (TAH-paz), foods to share, and peña, a slang word for a group of close friends.

The grape comes from the Tierra de Castilla region in the heart of Spain, an area that’s highly regulated by the Denominación de Origen (DO) appellation system.  Offering two reds, Tempranillo and Garnacha, a white, Verdejo and a Rosé, Tapeña wines are now availa

This state is also famous for its sophisticated cities, hospitable people, and lively nightlife. In spite of the apparent calm in Egypt after the historic "overthrow" of the Mubarak regime, travel, a major source of income for the country, has not recovered.

While some cruise lines have reinstated Egypt as a port of call, travel to the North African country is stagnant.

Veteran Travel Weekly reporter, Nadine Goodwin just returned from the region from a  press trip with US travel professionals.

She reported that the famed pyramids of Giza,  for example, which

Guard Your Goodies When You Travel

Smart travelers pack carefully for their vacations and take everything they need to stay healthy, and it's equally important to safeguard those items while you're on the road.

One precaution is to divide prescription meds and other critical health care supplies and carry them in two different places, such as a handbag and a carry-on suitcase (but never in checked luggage).

I also recommend using a travel lock to secure small items such as a purse, briefcase, or totebag to something large and awkw

Can Shopkick Kick the Travel Industry into Action?

Imagine if a travel destination or property rewarded you for just visiting it, or just walking through the door of a hotel or B and B,  or setting foot on an island.

Would that encourage a more loyal following and generate more business?

Afo-A-Kom: The Lost Totem

9008614293?profile=originalThe Afo-A-Kom is far from the world's greatest piece of art—or even Africa's. A 5-ft. 2½in. image of a king, it is rather crudely carved in iroko wood, the torso covered with sackcloth stitched with reddish-brown beads, the face masked in copper. But the Afo-A-Kom (literally, the Kom thing) is sacred to the approximately 30,000 people who constitute the Kom kingdom, a tribal enclave in the northwestern part of the Federal Republic of Cameroon.

Last week this rather ungainly sculpture caused a fl

9008613273?profile=originalI was deeply chagrined to learn that Gray Line recently suspended its culinary walking tours in NYC but nevertheless wanted to give one of their bus tours a try. Among the cavalcade of numerous other double-decker buses plying NYC's streets, I was fortunate to experience a complimentary ride aboard Gray Line's Downtown Loop. A hop-on, hop-off circuit, I caught the bus at its Times Square stop and luckily was able to climb up to the rooftop deck for a birds eye view of all that the non-stop narra
