Miami Food Trucks

Thanks to our sunny weather, our mix of many cultures and the availability of large parking lots, Miami has passionately embraced the food truck phenomenon. From single trucks that park next to an office building, to giant cuisine caravans that gather in public parking lots, food trucks are now a permanent part of the Miami landscape.

The menus are as varied as Miami’s local population. Cuban hamburgers, gourmet Vietnamese, fish tacos, dim sum, grilled cheese, gelato – if you’re craving it, you’l

9008620070?profile=originalLet me introduce you to another type of exciting accommodation: the "Star Beds" of the Loisaba Wilderness eco-resort in northeastern Kenya.

The two sets of Star Beds are unique to Loisaba. The first and original set is located among a kopje of rocks in one of the eastern valleys overlooking the "Kiboko" waterhole. The second and newer set is about 8 kilometres south on the banks of the Ewaso N'giro River. These are cantilevered over the flowing river below and are reached by footbridge from the o

Where to next?

I have a new bucket list item. Someday, someone, anyone, anywhere will pay me to be a travel writer. As long as it is in English, I really do not care if the assignment is to report on the mating habits of Fiji islanders, or to cover the efforts of the DOD to clean up Christmas Island after 4 decades of thermo-nuclear target practice. I might insist on Business class for the latter, but I would go.

It seems fitting that I have this goal. My favorite place to write is in airport coff

Nakations: Nude Travel is Big Business

How likely are you to go to a nude beach or clothes optional one, and strip?

For a country settled by humorless and uptight Puritans, a surprising 49% of Americans said they would do it.

Another 19%  were undecided, and 32%  gave an unqualified "no" to  the idea of beaching "au natural"

Courtesy of TripAdvisor's Nude Beach Survey Results, we also learn our  European cousins are, not surprisingly, more willing to go nude.

Riding a motorbike from the North to the South of Vietnam was an amazing experience. Now, while I didn’t ride the motorcycle on myself (Anthony did an amazing job!) it is still something that will remain with me for the rest of my life.

Each day we were faced with new challenges and amazing sights making the journey all the more incredible. I think what made it so momentous was the simple fact that we were in control of where we wanted to go on the trip. It didn’t have to be governed by train and

Formed at the convergence of the famous Mekong and Kahn rivers in Laos, the town of Luang Prabang is the archetypal product of when colonial and traditional architecture collide. Groomed in pristine fashion, one would think he is the first to discover this exotic landscape.

Palm trees line the riverside, as the spires of divine stupas protrude through the trees, and all while in the company of Buddha’s servants.

Above ground level, the views will take your breath away as the landscape proudly show

Luxury Hotels and Resorts in Vietnam

9008619875?profile=original

Vietnam offers a variety of luxury hotels, resorts, and villas. In my last post, I profiled some of my favorite accommodations. Here are three more wonderful places to stay, including a tropical beach resort, an exotic island retreat with a great spa, and an historic hotel that feels more French than Vietnamese:

Evason Ana Mandara, Nha Trang

Ana Mandara means “beautiful home for the guest,” which makes it the perfect name for this deluxe beach resort. At one end of the property a large infinity po

“B&B  Kick Gas”  Campaign Drives More Visitors to B&Bs

After paying $4.45 a gallon for gas in Connecticut, the idea of  $6/gallon prices before the end of the summer seems more probable than possible, not withstanding recent subtle trends downward.

And this, according to Marti Mayne, B&B marketing guru, is making travelers very anxious about their summer vacation plans.

Mayne is the coordinator for the Better Way To Stay  campaign, sponsored by the Professional Association of Innkeepers Internation

Stalking the Best Gelato in Miami

Gelato. For some, it's an obsession. For me, the word "cult" comes to mind. Now, before you go thinking I'm nuttier than pistachio, let me explain. It all started with my first trip to Italy back in 1987, where I learned that all I thought I knew about ice cream had been a lie. I still remember the moment of epiphany: standing at dusk outside a small gelateria artigianale in the town of Mariano Comense north of Milan, near Lake Como, with a local friend who subsequently gave up the pleasures of

A Tour of La Jolla's Grand Homes

9008619452?profile=original

La Jolla homes are some of the most beautiful and expensive in the United States, and it's not surprising that many visitors to San Diego would like to take a peek at them. Unfortunately, the most intriging houses are surrounded by view-obstructing walls and hedges.

However, once a year - this time it's Saturday, May 14 - the Secret Garden Tour of Old La Jolla provides an opportunity for guests to enter the gardens and wander over the grounds of private residences that are otherwise off-limits.
