Smart Phones Revolutionize Travel

Our new archetypal smart-phone traveler is sitting in traffic (or has wisely pulled over ), and books his flight via his phone. He then makes a rental car reservation, reviews hotel options on, say, TripAdvisor or Kayak and books his room, all on his mobile device.

The light turns green (or he pulls back into traffic) leaving the desk top and the laptop way behind.

The smart-phone carrying traveler is emerging as a new breed, using his or her mobile

Making Biber in Switzerland's Appenzell

We spent the first 2.5 days here in Switzerland exploring Appenzellerland close to the country's eastern border with Germany. The efficient and comfy train whisked us to Weissbad, a village surrounded by steep green pastures rising in every direction with majestic mountain ranges in the distance. Appenzell, the next town over, was filled with one-of-a-kind local craftspeople and artisan foods made uninterrupted for generations. Small shops, usually the sole province of fairy tales, are still ali

Le Square Trousseau is a typical French bistro near the Bastile and has food served all day. Traditional French fare and all very delicious!

David Vergari ~ The Legacy Man

I'd like you to meet the newest member of the Thornton Winery (Temecula Valley,CA) family, winemaker David Vergari. I set down for a meet and greet with David this week and what I found was a smart, outgoing, engaging man who unselfishly shares his time, talent and skills with those that cross his path. My sense of it is that we have a "Legacy Man" here. One that has a thoughtful idea of what AVA he's come to, what his tools and trials will be , and what his legacy

Are Ace Hotels The Coolest Hotels In America?

Probably.

And that probably makes Ace Hotel founder, Alex Calderwood, one of the hippest guys in America.

If Chris Mahoney, Senior VP at BlackBook Media is right, the recession killed the big, expensive hotel model, and “Calderwood has filled a niche.”

BlackBook publishes popular on and off line content on hotels, restaurants and nightlife.

But Calderwood, according to a recent interview in Entrepreneur Magazine didn’t just create a string

Catch the premiere of Survivor Nicaragua? Geezers vs. punks -- advantage: punks. Jimmy Johnson gets winded, whoop-de-do; a goofy water-bucket challenge -- and OMG, poor Wendy! Yep, looks like we're in for another action-packed season of hijinks, namecalling, and bungles in the jungle -- this time shot around the beach town of San Juan del Sur, on Nicaragua's Pacific Coast. We didn't really see the actual town in the first episode (the tribal council setting is just a set, I'm told), and who know

Byodo-In Temple: Serenity in Oahu

Byodo-In Temple

Located inside the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, Kaneohe, the Byodo-In Temple is a scale replica of a 900 year-old Japanese temple and was established in 1968 to honor the first Japanese immigrants to Hawai'i. The temple is home to a unique golden Buddha sculpture, more than 18 feet tall. A three ton brass bell rings occasionally from the bell house and is the only sound, besides a small stream, that pierces through the serenity of this spot at the foot of the Koo'lau Mountains. Top Ten Travel Social Network Sites for 2010

It’s pretty common these days for someone to come up with a “top ten” best web sites list or air fare search engine list or applications, and it’s anyone’s guess how accurate or useful the list is since we all have different needs and preferences and use the sites differently.

But I’m always interested in who’s on top..and on the bottom.

Best of Barcelona

In the spring of 2008 we took at 9 day trip to Barcelona and Paris and it was one of the best trips we ever took. We flew from Minneapolis to Newark and then Newark to Barcelona.

We landed in Barcelona and headed to drop off bags and explore the city before we could check into the hotel. We spent a few hours wandering around La Rambla and checked out the market.
