And he’s off to a grand start!

His recently self-published book, Hypertravel -100 Countries in Two Years  is less about Karges’  journey to most of the countries defined by the United Nations as countries, and more of a journey into Karges’ mind.

That’s not to say we don’t get some powerful and startling insights into the countries, villages, bus depots, airports, marketplaces, cafes, cities and dumps he wan

Lesson First

There is no crystal clear thing as this: that history of every part of the world begins with legends. Some we can find written in books and some came down to our generation by oral. The history of this nation – Ethiopia starts with a legend that we would not have the nerve to say ‘you shall know what we speak is true’.  Later, in the history, however, all we speak we know, are true for we have brought them from nowhere but credible sources.

Gena: Ethiopian Christmas

9008685856?profile=original

We don’t have Santa Claus here. We never saw him in the streets carrying big sacks and presenting Christmas gifts for our kids. We never saw the snow falling down on our roofs or on the ground. Up until recently I had no idea what the wines from France’s Languedoc-Roussillon region tasted like. I had my first taste at Tilghman Island Inn in Maryland’s Talbot County during a game & wine pairing dinner. I was impressed by its unique flavor profile. Lo and behold, a few months later I was alerted to the fact that Gerard Bertrand, an innovative and sustainable winemaker based in this same region was awarded “European Winery of the Year” at Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s Annual Wine Star Award

9008688058?profile=original

Used to be they were called “mommy bloggers,” but that was before their Klout scores soared and corporations avidly courted them.

And while I may be exaggerating, I’m not by much. This group of bright, engaged mothers who travel with their kids and run homes and blog, now run the family travel market and drive some of the most exciting conversations on line.

While CEO’s of hot start-ups and established web sites are pronouncing and  pontificating, these women bloggers and journalists are runn

The town bulletin board

Two weeks can be a long time.  But two weeks of sparkling, clear days, one just like the next, can never be long enough.

There is something about the quality of the light here on North Haven that makes you want to freeze the moment, dance in the sun, cry. Things can be perfect.

Like a ship-to-shore communication from an earlier time, my text message to my daughters read, “Another beautiful day on this island. Running out of things to do. Dad getting ancy.”
