What To Do If You Can't Afford An Overseas Trip?

As I just finished a major historical fiction novel and, after a year of readers critiques and editing I've just turned it over to a professional editor for the final run-through before submitting.  (The novel is titled 'SHADOW OF THE LION', set in Babylon, Asia Minor and Greece after Alexander the Great's death in 323 BC).  The novel itself was a long, long journey. And now the editing/publishing part is the last long haul.

Thing is, it costs to have a professional editor fine-tune you work, s

What Is 'Sustainable' Ecotourism?

Recently I watched Video’s of several Nature Organizations, I counted the expression “Sustainable” in one 12 minute presentation, 32 times (Video not displayed). This unleashed my curiosity and my search brought the following to light.

The WIKIPEDIA Definition:
A diagram indicating the relationship between the three pillars of sustainability suggesting that both economy and society are constrained by environmental limits.

Scheme of sustainable development: ( The average English speaker would spea

Colombia: A Country of Different Tales

Reading and searching in different travel blogs and publications I came across two very interesting, but very different, articles about Colombia. Yes, Colombia in South America, the country that all the world has something to say and not always very positive comments. Although I wasn't expecting something nice, I found something brilliant. In the article 3 Misconceptions About Colombia (And Why You Should Go) written by Adam Seper and published on the Huffington

By Roy Heale

Rosario is a radiant city on the move with a tolerant and gay-friendly population. The city is nestled in a gentle twist of the mighty Paraná River about 300 km northwest of the city of Buenos Aires. Due to this close proximity to the Capital City, it is often overlooked as a potential gay vacation destination by first time LGBT travelers to Argentina.

However, Rosario freely displays its natural ‘water-world’ of the Upper Delta with its magic islands covered by lush vegetation and

I never thought I would see a blue whale outside of the Smithsonian museum. In fact, I thought they were almost extinct. On January 23, 2012 I saw four pairs of them. Blue Whaleswere not even on my bucket list. When we started doing research on Sri Lanka we found out that about ten years ago, fisherman, and people living on a cliff overlooking the southern tip of Sri Lanka started reporting seeing amazingly large “fish”. Soon, scientists showed up and the “‘fish” turned out to be actually mamals.

One of the vexing ironies of travel is that Visitor Information Centers (VIC) do little to nothing to enhance or promote the destination they represent. If anything, they can be a “turn off” for the destination.

Visitor centers are usually some functional building filled with tired staffers surrounded by lots of brochures, a few maps and mundane kinds of information.

Almost never anything interactive

Great places to use the restrooms and buy a Coke and a bag of chips.

Not so with the UK city

Sometimes the best vacation is one where you don't go anywhere at all. For the last three years Ray and I have been spending a week in Palm Springs just like the other tourists going to the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Sonny Bono started the film festival 23 years ago and it keeps getting better every year.

The weather was warm and sunny, the relatives flew in from Florida to join us, and we got to do my two favorite things, go to the movies and eat out. As if that wasn't enough we g

The invitation came via an innocent e.mail from a source I did not know.

Swiss International Airlines, a 10-year-old carrier that had succeeded the bankrupt SwissAir, was inviting me to join a small group of American journalists on a four-night trip that would include one night on the plane and three in Swiss hotels.

With fading memories of my only previous press trip to Switzerland, I jumped at the chance, joining two women and one other man in an adventure so full that it seemed at least a week

Gay-Friendly Argentina?

9008679859?profile=original

Not surprisingly, when any country or territory takes the bold step to legalize same-sex marriages the business community subsequently decides it is acceptable to adopt a gay positive attitude. Such was the case in other countries like Canada following the 2005 Same-Sex Marriage Act and it now appears to be the circumstance in Argentina since the passing of the new law in 2010.

While this is a positive outcome of gay marriage there are also some precautions for the LGBT community to observe. Wh
