Santa Teresa beach has become a very popular place during the past years. As it has been mentioned several times, beautiful beaches, great surf conditions, wide variety of yoga services, tropical gardens and nice vibe make it a favorite among the off the beaten path destinations.

9008678900?profile=originalI'm ashamed to say that I occasionally watch Live with Kelly in the morning (used to be Live with Regis and Kelly - you know what I'm talking about). This week Kelly reported that New York City was voted the number one rudest city in the U.S. What?! Us rude? I'm not a native New Yorker, but have lived here about twenty years, so I consider myself a New Yorker by default. I'm originally from the Southwest of the U.S., where people are so polite it's almost sickening. I almost dread going into sho

Loving Travel Almost as Much as Family

9296560290?profile=original

It's a bit startling to learn that our passion for travel is second only to our passion for our families.

I learned this from travel trade sites which often have more interesting things to say than consumer travel publications or sites.

The content on Travel Weekly and, say, Hotelmarketing.com is more readable , more useful  than many  travel consumer sites and publications that stretch for hyperbole when describing blue Caribbean waters or some village in Spain.

So when Hotelmarketing ran its list

Seeing how traveling technology has evolved ih the past years makes me think, how today's technology would have impacted journeys like the Che Guevara's? This is particularly interesting to me because of the changes that one of the most important journeys of Ernesto (Che) Guevara produced, and continues producing, in society. In 1952 Ernesto Guevara and his friend Alberto Granados took a nine month journey (this I can write today since we have Wikipedia back to check my facts ;)) with the object

This is something I wrote for The Travel Doc:

While traveling cross-country a few times last year, I experienced something I suspect that a lot of travelers out there can relate to. All of the travel pillows I tried were more uncomfortable than not wearing one at all.

I tried numerous travel pillows, and more often than not, I would arrive tired and with a sore neck that would last for hours or even days. My head and neck just weren’t being supported properly.

A little research helped me iden

A step beyond Eco-tourism? This should be the way to travel, for everyone. Ethical Traveleris a nonprofit organization, founded to "empower travelers to change the world." We seek to use the economic clout of tourism to protect human rights and the environment. When something like this caught your eye, you better not turn away. Surfing the web I came across this interesting website and I couldn't just read, I had to write about them.

What NOT to Do If Your Cruise Ship Is Sinking

RAY+LIFEJACKET.jpg
Ray attending a lifeboat drill
Last Sunday night the Costa Concordia sank off the coast of the island of Giglio, enroute to Civitavecchia, a port I had visited many times working for Princess Cruises. I would like to say that in all my years at sea I never encountered a captain like Francesco Schettino. I considered all the captains kings of their ship, they were all very professional, attentive and if I have to admit it, a little bit scary.
While normally I am not one to comment on ship safety t

Lake Placid is the perfect destination in any season and for any reason.  But it is the winter season that put Lake Placid on the map. Off to Sri Lanka

Here I am on an Air Arabia flight over the middle of the Indian Ocean on my way to a city I had never even heard of a year ago, Colombo. (I am wondering if I should be wearing a crumpled trench coat and smoking a cheap cigar, but I digress) Colombo is the capital city of a country I had only heard of because I am a news junkie, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is only a few years past a civil war that pitted the Tamil Tigers (never to be confused with the team from Detroit) against the establishment who n

There’s no doubt marketers and brand managers are spending lots of human and real capital to leverage the power of Social Sites, especially Facebook and Twitter. But does it do them any good? Meaning, do consumers promote brands via Social Media regardless of how hard those brands try to get in front of consumers?

eMarketer says very clearly that 57.8 % of US Facebook users had not mentioned a brand in their status updates as of October 2011.

Hotelmarketing.com reports the same figures in its
