BUSES: There's several bus companies that offer all sorts of routes across NZ. This is the cheapest option to see the most of the country the easiest. The setbacks are its a set route and set schedule. Its a fast paced, up at 8am, get places and go. They say you can come and go as you please, but the issue is during the peak seasons it maybe very hard to get your spot on the bus once you give it up to stay longer. Its not as flexible as they say unless your calling weeks in advance. Its grea

Reindeer traffic jams are a common occurrence here in Kuusamo. When the weather is warm and the mosquitoes become unbearable in the forests, the reindeer seek respite on the wide open roads away from the damp, shady places that mosquitoes love.
In the video below, a mother reindeer loses her baby during one of these traffic jams and calls out to it, guiding it back to the group.

First, we acclimatised at Mountain Rock's Bantu Lodge which reminded me of Picnic On Hanging Rock with it's sprawling gardens dappled by the shade of tall trees, beneath which a party of boarding school girls made merry at the end of a school trip. When we wandered a little too far round the back of the lodge, things turned just a teensy bit Texas Chainsaw Massacre as we stepped over a hoof,
“I've seen and met angels wearing the disguise of ordinary people living ordinary lives.” ~Tracy Chapman. For many people the drive to volunteer either in their home country or abroad is usually from a personal view point. It most likely stems from personal experiences which move the individual to want to give back or just help out those they see as less fortunate than themselves. Sometimes, just too help out in a community of people who are not necessarily worse off than you are. We also have s

Curated Hotel Information vs Crowd-sourced Content
Sarah Lacy, in her typically classy and insightful travel content, points out in TechCrunch that basically we all know what to expect from an airline, no matter what airline or in what country.
We all get the bad legroom, the free soda, the predictable (if you're lucky) arrival and departure times) all of which make air travel a ho-hum, uninteresting and non-memorable part of travel
But, Lacy says, a hotel is a different story.
It's your home aw
The Warkworth Donnybrook is a community hosted auction sale that takes second hand items from hundreds of households in the area to dispense to thousands of shoppers from miles around.
The charity includes the auctioneer's time and skill. Everyone here is a volunteer, including the auctioneers. Look at all the stuff. It's an entire town's junk.
The material is made up of everything you could possibly imagine - tools and toys and old fashion, low technology items. Some people joke that they see 'th

We have just returned from a marvellous month away in Europe! I must recommend NZ's 'Farm to Farm tours' who organised 2 wonderful weeks in France for our small group of 11 from all over NZ. I wonder if any of them are Tripatini members? Would be great to share our great experiences.
We followed this tour up with 3 nights in Milan and 3 in Venice. Milan was a bit disappointing; we never did find the REAL shopping spots! Venice island blew me away; so amazing that there's not a road or car in sigh
The ideals canyons for canyoning are often cut into the bedrock stone, forming narrow gorges with numerous drops, sculpted walls and in some cases beautiful waterfalls. The levels on canyons go from very easy to extremely difficult, though the popularity of the sport is based in the fun rathe
Dining in Miami just keeps getting better. Just this morning, on the way back from an appointment, we were looking for a place to have a quick, simple lunch, and settled on a French café that opened not too long ago on Miracle Mile, in the heart of chichi Coral Gables (one of the few parts of South Florida that feels like a real city and not a suburb). We knew the Rendez Vous French Café and Wine Shop would be good as we stepped in the door and the aroma of fresh-baked quiches and café au lait w
