Arizona's Immigration Law Hits Tourism Hard

The last thing in the world Nevada and Las Vegas need now is an Arizona-type immigration bill.

If the "sin" doesn't undo sin city, the proposed Arizona-like immigration bill might.

Speaking to Travel Weekly the travel trade publication, Rossi Ralenkotter, CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority lamented that Arizona lost about $90 million dollars in tourism revenue because meetings, conventions and related businesses stoppe

Hotel Sleep Police Keep The Peace

Maybe I won't have to travel with my white noise maker or ear plugs anymore.

Loud hotel guests, especially when they occupy the room next to mine, or, worse, on either side or even a floor above me, are my biggest travel gripe and stress causer.

I always ask the check-in desk to be sure my room is not next to a wedding party or other merry-makers (or an elevator, above the kitchen or near a landing). By then the check-in staff are asking me if I'm s

Mancation - A Man's Vacation in Maine

Landing in Portland, Maine, I quickly stopped wondering if this would be another shopping and stuff-your-face vacation. I was happy to note boats, sloughs, masts, traps, seafood signs, varnished wooden spars, and sea smells…back in my personal natural element on the Maine coast.

Fortunately, there are many things to interest my wife at the same time; great food, interesting local shops, and historic B&B offering outstanding gardens. We would soon board an historic 1871 schooner for a 3-day sail

eBags Pushes Travel To Embrace Social Media

Charlene Li, co-author of the groundbreaking books, Groundswell, and Marketing in the Groundswell, (now CEO of Altimeter ) tells the story of Jim, a hard-traveling, hard-nosed computer security engineer whose key zipper on his laptop bag broke at a crucial meeting.

eBags replaced the bag, but they also listened to the review of the product Jim posted on their web site. They contacted him, and went on to improve the bag by getting the Hon

Wine Trippin’ In Rockland, Maine

I am always on the lookout for unique up-and-coming wine regions that present an interesting story and a 2-7 day destination of food, wine, and fun. For heaven sakes, there must be a wine-life beyond Napa and Sonoma, and the Champagne region of France. Been there done that. So begins my search for fun, funky, deserving-of-press wine regions through the Wine Trippin’ series. First stop – the mid-coast wineries near Rockland, Maine.

Rockland can be a challenge to get to, but that makes it even more

We here in Quito and trying to keep in touch with all those people that we have met at The Secret Garden Hostel, Finn McCool's and Uncle Ho's in the Mariscal, and Lead-Adventures, Hostel Tiana, and The Surf Shak.. Working with those travelling around South America is great but it gets to be a drag when you don't here from people after they leave. So we are trying this as a test to see if people respond to it and if we get enough of a response from all the adventurous travellers in South America

Varanasi, India's Holy City

Varanasi.jpg

Varanasi… one of the most ancient inhabited cities of the world is also the oldest living city of the world. Varanasi is considered to be India's religious and spiritual hub and derives its name from the tributaries of the Ganges, Varuna and Asi that it is located on. Its original name Kashi comes from Kasha meaning the place of sacred light. The other name Benares might have been either a corruption of Varanasi by the British or from the Pali version of the word Varanasi to Baranasi to Benares.

Through working at the Secret Garden Hostel in Quito I learned a lot about the people who make up the places and activities that Ecuador has to offer. The Galapagos is the bread winner for those who try and make a living while keeping a healthy perspective about the way they are living.

The learning curve for travellers is steep. Hostels vary in quality and commitment to those staying there. The Secret Garden is a very well regarded hostel because the owners are hands on and make the effort to tr

Fruit Wine Selection at Russell Orchards

If you’re headed up Argilla Road north of downtown Ispwich, you’ll get the distinct feeling that you’re heading into more remote surroundings of rolling farm fields, and wooded glens. One pastoral gem that you simply can’t miss is Russell Orchards. Only about 5 minutes from Crane Beach, you’ll see a wood shaked barn to your right and once inside, it’s apparent that this is the real deal…not some knock off built within the last decade to look like an antiqu

Proposed DOT Rules Give Passengers Legal Rights At Last

With the tarmac meltdown this week of a Virgin Atlantic (a 4-hour delay with fainting passengers) flight still in the news, Travel Law attorney Mark Pestronk could barely contain his enthusiasm for the new proposed Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations: Enhancing Airline Passenger Protections. He calls them "the most important measure that the government has taken for airline passengers in the 72 years since it began

I’m what you might call a pretty casual Harry Potter fan. I read the first book and saw most (not sure if all) of the seven movies with varying degrees of pleasure. But visiting “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” the long-awaited theme-park-within-a-theme-park at Universal’s Islands of Adventure after its official opening this past Friday in Orlando, Florida, I found myself awash in a sweaty sea of Potterphiles — many presumably so devoted to J.K. Rowling’s creation that they’ve made a point

Once again it may appear that all M. and I do is consume large amounts of alcohol when we go away for the weekend. So besides visiting Swhisky, what else can you do in the region of Ardon and where can you stay to get to it all?

PLACE TO STAY:

This Bed ‘n’ Breakfast has earned every one of its four stars. Rarely have I stayed somewhere where the owners have paid such close attention to detail, down to the way they lay the table at breakfast. Emmanuela and Claude Rebord run La Petit

The Art of Europe

When one thinks of Europe, one tends to think of art. With its plethora of offerings including historical sites, museums, and even art galleries, the choices are truly endless.
