Best for a Night Out: The Savoy

If you want to book a special hotel for a big night out, you will no doubt need it to be near the West End, where the city's best restaurants, clubs, theatres and pubs are located. Where better to rest your head then than the fabulous Savoy, possibly the most famous hotel in London and located conveniently just a stone's throw from Covent Garden, along The Strand?

According to Forbes and other sources, London has become the most visited city in the world.  If you are one of the many planning to travel there, let us recommend a charming boutique hotel which is reputed to be the essence of "Englishness" - discreet, personal, friendly, interesting, lavish, down-to-earth, brilliantly managed and with its own distinct personality - the Athenaeum Hotel and Apartments.  Nothing is too much trouble for the staff of the Athenaeum.  In the heart of elegant Mayfair,

Moscow's Luxury Boutique Hotel Pokrovka

9009017491?profile=original

Last week I had occasion to send a technology team from my Our Russia Magazine to Moscow. Sasha and Natalya, my partners in the new media experiment, were scheduled to meet with Skolkovo science city executives and other key technology people in town. As it happened, they stayed at a wonderful hotel I knew of, Mamaison All-Suites Spa Hotel Pokrovka, so I thought a review here on Tripatini might be helpful for any of you headed to Russia's capital.

The Mamaison brand part of a group of upscale b

It was a few years back on a rainy night that we wended our way to Palazzo Manfredi and dinner at its Michelin-starred Aroma restaurant. A lot of hotel stays and superb dining experiences later, we still had a memory of that time and also of our meeting with the elegant Bruno Papaleo, general manager.

Now we were back in Rome, guests at the Palazzo Manfredi, a five-star Relais & Châteaux property (Via Labicano 125), right near the Coliseum. In the 17th century it became a villa of the Evangel

Take a right from Times Square's Father Duffy Square down West 47th Street for a short stroll and to your right, an early-20th-century hotel completely transformed into a four-star boutique hotel rises nine stories above the surrounding chaos. It's clear that father-and-son co-founders Hank and Brandon Freid took their 2010 creation of Sanctuary Hotel NYC, a luxury Buddhist-themed retreat, as a challenge and ultimate statement of creating the impossible here.

The Amazing Hilton Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv - Hilton Pool LOBBY

by Myrna Katz Frommer and Harvey Frommer

It seems like this hotel has always been there. And in many ways this is a statement closer to the truth than one might imagine. Construction work was launched on September 13, 1962, just a few years after the founding of Israel itself. Three years later, Israel's biggest and most modern hotel was open for business

There are those who say the Hilton Tel Aviv is still the finest hotel in the city. It is definitely one of the largest in all of Israel. Crea

omniberkshireplace.jpg?width=328When staying in Manhattan, some hotels capture the essence of what it's like to actually live here. Visitors may wonder what drives people to pay a premium for the privilege of forsaking their cars and residing in apartments with square footages approximating walk-in closets. Upon checking into a hotel like the Omni Berkshire Place, you quickly realize that having so many views at every turn each day is one of Manhattan's most alluring characteristics.

Did you ever notice how many Manhattan hotel exteriors are often buried in the jumble of surrounding architecture and obfuscated by the frenetic street activity? Without signage, you'd walk right past many of their entrances without noticing.

An exception to this scenario, Sofitel NYC, rises 30 stories above 44th and 45th streets, sheathed in a contemporary pattern of limestone and glass among midtown Manhattan's concrete canyons. Upon stepping through the doorman-attended glass front doors, y

Dubai's Best Luxury Hotels

9296545074?profile=originalThe best travel advice I ever received? “Pick your hotel carefully. More than any other factor, it will color your impression of the destination.”

Nowhere is this more true than in Dubai. Travelers who report “it’s just another big city” obviously didn’t make a good choice on lodging.

The problem is that it’s hard to get the inside scoop – advice from someone who’s actually been there. What follows are my recommendations based on having stayed in each of these properties

Six-Star Hotels? Don't Believe It

From NMT Images

So far no international classification for hotels exists, but that hasn’t stopped ambitious hotel marketers from slapping any number of stars, diamonds, cacti on their properties and touting them as 5 or 6 or even 7 star properties, whatever that may mean in real service and amenities.

I think the ratings inflation trend began with the Xanadu-  frenzy in Dubai, especially with the luxury hotel, Burj Al Arab (Tower of the Arabs), built on an artificial island and billed as a 7-Star s

A couple of nights ago I got to join a group for a little soirée like quite a few I've attended in some of the glammer circles of South Beach. The venue was a line of ten sleek white cabanas facing the ocean, stocked with bubbly, shrimp and crab legs, decadent desserts, and lots of Ketel One. A DJ spun global lounge sounds, and between sips, noshes, and gazes out at the busy beach and the ships in the distance we all happily dished about the latest doings in South Florida and beyond.

Chic and Cheerful Hotels in London

London has a reputation as being one of the most expensive cities on the planet, but with a little insider know-how tracking down a great value, stylish hotel needn't be a chore. Here's my pick of the best luxury hotels in London, all of which have rooms that regularly dip below £120 per night.

Radisson Edwardian Berkshire: rooms from £90 per night

The Radisson chain may not be the most design-led of hotels in the Big Smoke, but they are all clean-lined, contemporary and centrally located. The Ber

There are plenty of places in London to get a traditional afternoon tea, and lord knows I've sampled enough of them. From the elegant surrounds of Brown's in Mayfair to the grandest dame of the all, The Ritz, if you're after scones and strawberry jam, Victoria sponge cake and Earl Grey, there's no shortage of places to try.

If however, you fancy something a little different, you could do a lot worse than give one of the capital's modern luxury hotels a go. Here are two of my favourite afternoon t

There's something stirring in East London, and I'm not talking about mop-haired trendies mid-afternoon on a Sunday. This part of the capital has been - up until now - significantly lacking in luxury hotels, but that's all changing with the arrival of upmarket designer boltholes to make any fashionista swoon.

First up is Sir Terrace Conran's Shoreditch venture, The Boundary (pictured). Opened last year, it doesn't occupy the prettiest spot in the city, but is fast becoming a destination in itself.
