Growing up in a centuries-old stone farmhouse in Montenegro, owner Jack Sinanaj along with his brother and cousins stood side-by-side with their father and uncl

How Not To Travel Like An "Ugly American"

It's part of travel's enduring mythology: The American tourist, unable to manage even a few sentences in any language other than English, and oblivious to the culture and traditions of other countries.

The unflattering image of the "Ugly American" is a bit unfair, perhaps, but the "USA Number 1!" attitude persists among many American travelers.

So Dean Foster, self-styled master of global etiquette and cross-cultural trainer to the world,

By Roy Heale

Every now and then during my travels I am fortunate enough to stay in remarkable accommodations that have their own unique and memorable features. Such was the case when I walked though the front door of Chez Wadi Pousada in Buzios, Brazil. The aura of peace and tranquility was instantly apparent, but perhaps more importantly I immediately felt right at home. Located just about 100 meters from the Manguinhos Beach, Chez Wadi is the perfe

Traditional two week holidays are declining in popularity however, with 10 day breaks proving much more popular. Many holiday makers are citing that a week’s get away doesn’t seem long enough, especially

Navidad de color (A Colorful Christmas) is a simple yet slick, formulaic yet moving singalong from 2008, sponsored by outgoing (as in, leaving office) first lady Vivián Fernández de Torrijos. Singer/songwriter/producer Alfredo Matheus Diez and actor Fernando Carrillo, both Venezuelan, crammed the Teatro Nacional (National Theater) in Panama City’s beautiful colonial quarter with several dozen local celebs (Matheus is the dude in the red shirt, BTW). Stars from the music scene naturally pre

Balcony.5-300x224.jpg

Many people like the beach and enjoy sunbathing and swimming. Both can be hugely enjoyable provided that some sensible precautions are taken. Here are 10 safety issues to consider when visiting the beach:

1. Do not swim where there is a red flag flying. This means danger and there may be strong undercurrents that can overcome even the strongest swimmer. Never underestimate the power of the sea.12beach-grove-pool.3-300x224.jpg

Inca Trail Preguntas

Preguntas is the Spanish word for questions. I feel like I’ve been driving the guy at Wayki Trek a little bananas with all of my questions. Wayki Trek is the outfitter in Peru that I will be partnering with to offer trekking options such as the world-famous Inca Trail. I found Wayki Trek via the Andean Travel website. They were recommended because of their fair and ethical treatment of porters.

The Inca Trail is no walk in the park. It’s long—26 miles. And, you cross two mountain passes of nearl

Luxury Travel Bows to Social Media

In Cannes, France, members of the elite International Luxury Travel Market crowd (ILTM)
paid grudging respect to the power of the social media “crowd”.

The elite at the classy Riviera resort had to admit that the  power and wisdom of Face Book, Twitter, and “invite only” travel web sites was changing the face of luxury travel, for good.

Agence France Presse (AFP)  reported that Klara Glowczewska, editor of Conde Nast Traveler, a glossy, upscale trave

Red Velvet Cupcakes - The "Now" Holiday Treat

9008584501?profile=originalRed Velvet cupcakes seem to be popping up everywhere, so I just had to make a batch. And...I humbly confess, they're darn good!

Below is the recipe I used, however, I think I should have made fewer

cupcakes as mine did not rise to the top. Did I overbeat or was there

not enough batter for 30 cupcakes??? Who knows. I used the larger silver stand alone cupcake holders.

I also used less food coloring, just because the entire bottle seemed like overkill.

Nonetheless, the resulting cupcakes tasted g
