Ryanair started charging for checked luggage before American Airlines, but blame American for having made nickel-and-diming safe for other U.S.-based carriers. Today all the major U.S. carriers – Delta, Continental, United, U.S. Airlines – charge $25* for the first checked bag on domestic flights and $35 for the second (checking in online only saves a couple of dollars). And for the final insult, on August 1st Spirit Airlines initiated fees for carry-on luggage.

TTBS After living half a century in Kansas we moved here to Orlando five years ago. It was to be the fulfillment of a long-held dream to live among the palm trees and year-round sunshine. Before the move we thought about it a lot and planned even more but nothing could quite prepare us for the reality we would face, Lisa and I.
The dream started decades ago on a vacation in Las Vegas with our then infant first child Sydney. I remember focusing my eyes on a stand of palms the last day of that vaca
