Here are three of my own favourites:

The Industrial Revolution ended long ago in the United States, but remnants of its impact are still palpable. Once temples of commerce, many cities bustled with sprawling factories, grand theaters, turn of the century office towers, majestic hotels, and regal apartment buildings woven together by pedestrian friendly street grids. Today, much of this ornately designed architecture is demolished or condemned. Over the years, speculative redevelopment schemes promised a return to their former grand

Samson and Goliath, the huge gantry cranes of Belfast’s Harland and Wolff shipyard, still dominate the city skyline though the incessant din of heavy shipbuilding is now but a memory. The company, which once employed more than 10,000 skilled craftsmen and engineers, has contracted its workforce to around 500, and has diversified into new technologies, such as wave and wind turbine construction. The skyline, however, is now enhanced by a new structure, and the slipways, from which the sister ship

Kashan, Iran, and its Rosewater Festival

When-is-Kashan-rose-water-festival-1200x600.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710x

All this is due to t

Not for its ambrosial Ube (purple-yam) jam or the warm, English-speaking Igorots (the traditional peoples inhabiting the surrounding region). Not even for the glorious pine trees that hug the city or the smiling sunflowers that romance the hills, Baguio City is most appreciated by Filipinos for its unique personality and its youthful chutzpah (more than 65 percent of its population is under 30). Located in the Cordillera Central mountains of the country's main island Luzon, a bit over th
