Pebble Beach cited in 'A Fantastic California Road Trip: San Francisco to Carmel'

isogood One of the most famous destinations along this route is an unincorporated community that's long been a resort destination for the well heeled, especially famous for its seven golf courses, such as Cypress Point Club, Monterey Peninsula Country Club, and Pebble Beach Golf Links, as well as the scenic 17th-Mile-Drive, meandering along the beaches and forests between Monterey and Carmel. There's a $10 fee to enter the area.   read post

  • Bob Ward's comment in this group "Why is Poland ignored when talking about European Golf Courses?" -- inspired this new blog post:Ignore Golf in Poland? Big Mistake. on my blog Changing Your Grip. He supplied me with great photos and information and now I'm sharing it across social media. I wrote a guest post 2 years ago on The World's Most Inspiring Golf Courses and that sparked my interest in great courses around the world that don't get much attention. Love that Sand Valley (near Gdansk) offers agrotourism accommodations nearby. Right up my alley! Part 2 to come...

  • Dear David,

Mallorca golf fits into the big picture. Called the Golf Island, few places in the world offer such diversity, with 24 golf courses within a 1-hour drive. The area surrounding Palma and the southwest has the biggest concentration of courses.

The top courses are Golf Son Gual (a European Tour Senior event took place there in 2009. Ian Woosnam was quoted as saying "it's a bit like Augusta). Selected from 32,000 courses, it was recently included in the Rolex World's Top 1,000 Golf Courses guide, and Golf World magazine selectedthe course as the best Spanish course outside the mainland.

Year after year, Club de Golf Alcanada is voted favorite course of German golfers by the German mag Golf Journal. Located in the north of the island, it borders the sea which makes for some beautiful views.

Son Muntaner Golf is located just to the north of Palma in the luxurious suburb of Son Vida. It is part of the  Starwood Hotel complex  and  as a Golf resort (with 63 holes) is  one of the largest  in Europe with 3-18-hole and 1-9 hole Executive course.

It goes without saying that the maintenance on these courses is excellent.
