The area is appropriately called Costa Rica’s “adventure capital” since you can do just about every adventure activity here, from zip lining to waterfall rappelling, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, nature hikes, bird watching and swimming in waterfalls.

Then there is the Arenal Volcano itself, strikingly grand as its hulking cone-shape rises above the rainforest, producing countless steamy

Located less than an hour east of Los Angeles, and two hours north of San Diego, Claremont maintains a small-town character with a population of 35,000.  Along with the Claremont College, considered by many to be the “Ivy League of the West,” and a beautiful residential are

5 Top Washington State Spots for Camping & Hiking

9009090875?profile=originalSEASTOCK

With lush landscapes characterized by forests, deep fjords, and numerous lakes, Washington State the most northernly state in the continental US, and boasts some of the country's most scenic parks.

(Some of the hiking in these parks is quite remote. I would highly recommend using a GPS device or a hiking watch that has GPS so you don’t get lost. If you plan on camping in the parks, keep in mind there are few if any facilities and you will need to bring in your own shelter. I would re

I have been hanging out in South Korea for a while, and one lazy afternoon decided to check out Seongsu-dong, the gritty, working-class neighborhood on the Han River that has in the last five years become Seoul's hipster-chic answer to Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Shoreditch, filled new galleries, shops, and restaurants. So I took the camera and made an appointment with Aaron, my necessary “Korea interpreter”, at Seongsu metro station.

There weren't many people at the street of Seongsu-dong in such

What, you say - skiing in New York? Well living there most of my life, I can tell you NY has some pretty good skiing. It's obviously hardly the Rockies or Alps, but it's pretty good.

New York’s climate gives us the perfect opportunity to ski and snowboard in various popular skiing destinations in the state, bounded by the snowy region of the Niagara frontier and its Southern Tier, the hilly, snowy areas near the border with Pennsylvania.

There are some wonderful ski resorts out

En Route in Argentina's Dramatic North

9009093456?profile=original

by Felice Hardy

Even if you’ve been not just to Buenos Aires but also the pampas, Mendoza, Córdoba, Patagonia, and Iguazú Falls, that still leaves much more wonderful stuff to explore in Argentina. I recently took the sunny city of Salta in the far north of the country as the stepping-off point for a 900-kilometre (560-mile) round trip, with only the first 90 minutes’ drive outside the city on paved road. It’s an area that is so little known that in some parts they see almost no visitors all

9008991856?profile=originalToday is of course the 15th anniversary of one of the USA’s most traumatic events of the post-World-War-II period: the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. It’s also the second anniversary in which the Freedom Tower, the skyscraper that replaced those doomed Twin Towers has been open to the public.

I made it a mission to visit this remarkable new skyscraper (whose official name is One World Trade Center) on a recent last return visit to New York City. As someone w

It’s been said that you haven’t really seen the rainforest until you’ve seen it at night. Discover one of the best rainforest night walk tours in Costa Rica.

The jungle is a noisy place at night. All of those chirps, croaks, tinkling sounds, and booms, somehow seem a lot louder and a little scarier when you can’t see what’s making them.

Most people only visit the rainforest in Costa Rica by day. But they say “you haven’t really seen the rainforest until you’ve seen it at night”. So here I am;

Our “ultimate European road trip” terminated in Stuttgart, Germany where we dropped off our once brand-new Macan S, which we named Max, at the Porsche factory for its shipment home.

After being on the road for almost 30 days driving through Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland, there comes the time when you realize… enough is enough… it’s time to go home!

And on this vacation, of course, we brought back quite an unusual souvenir!

Murano Oriental Resort is cool. The luxe property combines the exotic and hip in a setting of high design. Hot meets cool in Palmeraie, a seemingly endless stretch of desert on the outskirts of Marrakech where palm trees (protected by the king) grow undisturbed — even in the middle of dirt-paved roads — and the wilderness extends to the foot of the majestic and eternally snow-covered Atlas Mountains.

Wales' Remarkable Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

If someone 2000 years ago had compiled a list of ‘Seven Wonders of the Modern World’, it’s pretty certain that it would have contained a few aqueducts. The Romans were pretty good at building these structures. They were used to convey water from where it was to where it was needed, and some of them are still standing. The Pont du Garde, at Arles, France and the Acueducto Romano in Segovia, Spain are the best-known examples which can still be seen.

Bali: Paradise Buried

9008664886?profile=original

If Bali is on your bucket list, scratch it off. I’ll save you the long plane ride and the money to get there by telling you that the romantic, idyllic paradise you have in your mind about Bali has been buried under tourists, traffic and trash. Our introduction to Bali might have jaded us. I know it jaded my wife. The line at immigration was not long, but the clerks were very slow. Directly in front of us were two grungy euro looking trekkers with dreads. I fully expected them to get seriously sc
