Grenada's charming capital St. George's

Built around an old volcano crater, it was founded in 1650 by the French who first colonized "La Grenade," these days has a population of nearly 34,000, and has managed to preserve its traditional and low-key charm, including West Indian and historic Georgian architecture . Landmarks in addition to government buildings and several notable churches include the National Museum, the picturesque Carenage inlet, and nearby forts, Fort George and Fort Frederick. And of course there's plenty of dining, shopping, bars, and places to stay.
