UNESCO-World-Heritage Galle Fort and Old Town

On the southwest coast, this was founded by the Portuguese in 1588, then further fortified by the Dutch East India Company before the British took over in 1796. It´s on the UNESCO list as the best preserved example of a European-built fortified city in South and Southeast Asia, with a fusion of local and European architecture.
