Crafting leather products is perhaps this city´s leading artesinal industry, and tanning/color dyeing is one of the key steps to prepare leather for its crafting into handbags, wallets, jackets, ottomans, belts, shoes, and various other products. The Chouara tannery you see here is the largest and oldest - supposedly dating back to the 9th century when Fez was founded - and of course it has an enormous shop attached!
