Marhaba! Exotic yet not intimidating, this North African kingdom just knocks our socks off with its ancient, labyrinthine "imperial cities" such as Fez, Marrakesh, Rabat, and Meknes; its beautiful beaches; its Sahara desertscapes; and its scrumptious cuisine. Maroc, c'est magnifique!

Our hearts go out to all the victims of the massive earthquake which devastated areas of the High Atlas Mountains and Marrakesh this past September 8, and we urge our members to do what they can to help by contributing to aid organizations listed here.

Venturing into Morocco's Sahara Desert

When good friends asked my husband and me to join them to spend New Year’s Eve in Morocco’s Sahara Desert, it was hard to say no. Memories of Morocco

For around ten days recently I traveled through the country of Morocco. I started my trip in the fabled "blue city" Chefchaouen (population around 43,000), just inland from Tangier. It’s cool to get lost in the old medina (old town) - founded along with the city itself in the 15th century - so stunning I didn't mind wandering aimlessly through its cobalt labyrinth. Chuffed by Chefchaouen, Morocco's 'Blue City'

Blue skies, blue seas...this is a colour which we associate with open spaces, freedom, expansiveness, and inspiration. Blue's cool tonality also invokes, among other things, rest and tranquillity; it's even been shown to lower blood pressure. And of course, especially when it's used in architecture, blue never fails to impress - especially when it's the dominant colour scheme, as in a small number of towns and cities throughout the world, such as Jodhpur, India; Júzcar (aka "the…

  • The horrific earthquake last Friday had me reliving marvelous memories of our trip to Marrakesh and the High Atlas Mountains, with the sobering realization of how vulnerable much of the infrastructure we saw is to temblors. • Moroccan cuisine - one of my favorites - is a national treasure that's also one of the world's most distinctive, full of exotic spicing as well as wonderful flavors and textures. And a number of local companies have joined the cooking schools trend to offer visitors the opportunity to learn how to prepare these delicacies in situ, and bring that knowledge back home with them.
