Seven Magic Mountains is an art installation located in the Nevada desert, and the weather can be quite hot and dry. You may also want to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. It's also a good idea to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. While there is no strict dress code, it's important to dress appropriately for the weather and…

  • I am constantly amazed at how definitive non-business people are about the health and future of print. There has been a substantial world-wide recession, yet nobody factors that into current - and dare one suggest - temporary weakness in the bottom lines of SME publications. Starting with 2011 most titles have seen increases in ad lineage.

I recently met with the top editors from major magazines. They're making their moneyy on print and not on-line.

As for the American newspapers which suffered and died or are limping along: bad management. Many companies were bought by non-nespaper people who loaded their balance sheet up with junk debt. Revenues could have supported current operations, but not service billions of dollars in debt. And in Canada, circulations only dipped 3-5% which was just a few households belt-tightening. The leading national newspaper just invested $1.1 billion in a new design and production facilities. Another chain was sold in a bidding war.

What happens in parts of America isn't necessarily a universal truth.

  • I recently wrote a blog article. I am being encouraged to submit it to several local newspapers. However, in reading the newspaper article categories I don't see one that really fits the piece. Any suggestions? Is this article really print ready? Here is the article link, For Future Generations? (It didn't fit my own website article specs, either!)
  • re: suitcaseready - you do not say what magazine? No doubt there are a few that may survive - and a few that actually today have a large readership -  but for how many more generations? How many newspapers have survived? Shouldn't we plan for the future rather than assuming the past, or even the present, will remain? The internet didn't even exist 35 years ago. There is no reason why on-line media should not generate as much respect as print. They are not mutually exclusive.
  • With all due respect to my digital brethren, the death of the print media is overestimated. Print is what drives traffic to digital a lot of the time. My magazine is ready by 45 million people and works so well for advertisers that they usually break even on $150,000 ads by 11am the Monday after the Sunday release. The web site - not so much! An online presense is necessary; you should be everywhere a potential customer could find you, but dont dismiss print!

  • Great comment Patsy re: Mantis net presence. As much as I love a newspaper or magazine I skim through them perhaps reading one or two articles. I never read an ad. I spend most of my day on the computer out of necessity. Jennifer, I just looked up Mantis because I had no idea? Print media is being replaced by the Net, especially for the travel industry.
  • Jennfer, when was the last time your CEO read a news paper? Where did he first hear about Hurricane Irene? The Majority looks  for online information before buying any new pricey purchase. People not only look for the experts reviews, but thanks to social media, we also look for opinions of current users. Before I buy a Mantis, I will get on the internet and look for information. You better be there, or I'll get my info from a non authority or your competitor.
  • Hi Guys! I need some help!
