I drove through the city of San Jose last weekend. Everywhere the streets were clogged with traffic and shoppers, rushing around to cash in on Christmas deals and sales. Besides making a mental note to avoid the traffic until after Christmas, the scene made me adamantly think how much I do not want that chaos for my holiday season.

Sure, it’s fun to buy gifts for others; and it definitely is fun to receive them! Giving and receiving at any time, in all forms, is one of the most beautiful elements

De 'Traboules' por Lyon

Traboule-Lyon.jpg?width=640

J K - jk sign from inside...

In the heart of Piazza Santa Maria Novella

Rarely does a hotel inspire one to visit any urban mecca. However, I have to admit that the reason for my stopover in this Renaissance city was for the rare opportunity to experience Florence’s Renaissance hotel, J.K. Place.

J.K. Place is no ordinary hotel. Rather, it is a new and exciting space recently incorporated into a hotel. The exquisitely intimate property, smack dab in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, had come well recommended. I had to see for mysel

Stretching from the port town of Puntarenas to the surf town of Dominical, Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast is a transition zone from the dry tropical forest of the North Pacific to the wet rainforest of the Sout

42thRestaurantDining

42 stories above downtown White Plains’ Ritz Carlton, the tallest building between NYC and Boston, the glass paneled walls of 42 The Restaurant offer eye popping views of Westchester County and a distant Manhattan skyline. With 4 kitchens, banquet space, and a lounge that extends up to the 43rd floor, the even bigger attraction here is down home Portuguese cooking in a casual fine-dining setting. Accessible via an elevator ensconced in an alcove well beyond the hotel lobby, you would think that

My Introduction to Masai Culture in Kenya

After a 5 hour drive SSW out of Nairobi Iarrived at the Amboseli Sopa Lodge, located on the outskirts of Amboseli National Park.  The lodge is stunningly beautiful and comfortable. Yes, we are “in the bush.” I know, because there is no internet and cell phones do not work.  Actually the lodge has had internet, but it does not work anymore, and the cell phone coverage is limited to one carrier, the name of which is, wonderfully, Safaricom. The lodge provides every other creature comfort one would

Inti Raymi festival in Cusco

The Inti Raymi is a festival held every year in Cusco.

The Incas, like many other indigenous peoples around the world,  worshiped the sun, and every 24th of June they held the ”Inti Raymi”, which means ”sun party” in Quechua.  It starts at the temple of the sun, and goes to the main square.  It finishes at Sacsayhuamán. Sacrifices were made during the event. This was done in Inca Times but ended after the empire collapsed. Some people in Cuzco started it again in the 1940′s.  It is now held ever
