Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles Islands

Silhouette Cruises has announced it will recommence its expeditions to the Seychelles atoll of Aldabra in 2011. Aldabra is the world second largest coral atoll in the world and is virtually untouched by humans. The Atoll is a located in the Western Indian Ocean and is approximately 1150km south west of Victoria Mahé and 420km North of Madagascar.The Aldabra Atoll is one of 2 of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Seychelles.

Aldabra is home to the world's largest population of giant tortoises, the Aldabra Giant Tortoise numbering over 150,000 individuals roaming freely on the atoll. The atoll is also known for the Coconut crab, the world's largest land crab, hammerhead sharks , manta rays, barracuda as well as a breeding ground for green and hawksbill turtles.


The expeditions will be on the oceanographic vessel MV Maya's Dugoing which is an oceanographic vessel that combines the range and durability of a research vessel with the comfortable amenities of a yacht.
