Glow worms of Waitomo Caves, New Zealand

Found all over the country, these "glow worms" (the larval stage of Arachnocampa luminosa, aka the fungus gnat) exude a magical blue-green light at night, and one of the best places to experience the magic is on a boat ride through the North Island's Waitomo caves, set in a spectacular karst landscape three hours from Auckland.
