"I, too, get asked that question so often that I've learned to say "wherever I am at the moment." And it's true that whatever country I'm in, I like to be totally there, not dreaming about the next destination. And I've had many "trips of a…"
"Yup, that's what everybody says. I haven't snorkeled in a long while but look forward to doing it there. Just today I got some "shoes" to wear in the water, as I'm told the seabed is very rocky. Sunblock? You bet, also a brimmed hat. How recently…"
"Thanks, Sandra. The volunteer project is set up by Frontier, a British society working on environmental issues. I'll have my laptop with me but need to get an adaptor plug in order to recharge it. Power source itself is okay, just the plug-in part…"
"Hi Sandra, I leave Sept. 17 for the Cook Islands where I'll be volunteering in a school in Aitutaki for 2+ weeks before heading to Papeete for the Aranui III cruise around the Marquesas Islands. Any advice or comments about Aitutaki? I'll be housed…"
"Petra isn't the only worthy site to visit in this hospitable country. I'm just back ten days ago, still reeling from all the history buried in Syira and Jordan. No political problems while we were there. Spend a night in a Bedouin tent in the desert…"
"Sure, Jose. I have zillions of pix, none of them edited as yet. But I'm not sure how to post any here. It's a land of rivers. Lots of birds--no pix of them though. I went out caiman-hunting one night with a research team; fascinating. I was mostly…"
"I'm just back from three weeks in fascinating Guyana. Loved it--even though I'm covered with insect bites. Sadly, the looked-forward-to excursion to Kaietur Falls was cancelled that very morning, due to weather conditions at destination. And I left…"
"Success! I leave Jan. 28 for Guyana and will head from Georgetown to Yupukari to volunteer for Yupukari Learners, an NGO established by an American woman a few years ago. It is involved in schools, libraries and other social service for that…"
"Sandy, you might enjoy "At Home in the World: Memoirs of a Traveling Woman" in which I relate my adventures in far-flung places such as Bolivia and Bhutan, Tanzania and Thailand--and more. Sorry, none in Europian countries, which you like best. Some…"
"Over the course of many years I've volunteered 22 separate times in 14 countries. I'm looking at next February for 2 weeks--plus a little travel time--in Guyana or Suriname. I've done Earthwatch projects, but usually teach English, as I did in Ghana…"
"I recently returned from Ghana, where I volunteered for 3 weeks with Cross-Cultural Solutions in Hohoe. That'a a seedy but charming small city (30,000) in the Volta Region, 4 hours north of Accra and very near the Togo border. I taught in a…"
If you love snorkeling, Atutaki is a great place to do it. I went on a day long tour for snorkeling, swimming and lunch at 'One Foot Island.' If you think of questions, please email me. Of course, you will want to have lots of sunscreen! It is a paradise.
It is great to meet you on Tripatini. You are amazing and I hope to have your enthusiasm and energy in future years. With regards to your question about the Cook Islands, I apologize but can not think of helpful information. Atutaki is surreal in its beauty. I hope that you can snorkel while you are there. Please let me know where you are volunteering. I would like to do that also! Perhaps you have specific questions and I will try to answer them.

Good afternoon, Dorothy, and a hearty welcome to our site! It's great to have you with us -- and we think you'll find it productive as well as interesting and enjoyable.
To get the most out of us, you may want to take a few minutes to join several other of our many groups which you might find of particular interest, such as Florida, Volunteer Vacations, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jordan, Eco/Sustainable Tourism, Eating/Drinking the World, and plenty of others covering many topics and most destinations throughout the world.
FYI, on your profile you'll see a blue bar marked "Text Box," which you can turn into a box containing not just text but also photos and even videos about yourself, your interests, your travels, and your writing.
Finally, if you would, please be so kind as to spread the word among your travel-interested friends, family, associates, and readers. It's fast and easy to use our "INVITE" function above left on the navigation bar to enter e-mails (even your whole list at once!).
Many thanks for joining us, Dorothy; we wish you an outstanding rest of 2009 and look forward to hearing more from you...!

I believe I was there 7 years ago and many years before that. Yes, the water shoes are essential! I am happy for you to have this experience.
All the best,
Sandra
