The ghosts of St. Augustine, Florida

At age 458, founded during the Spanish empire by Admiral Pedro Menéndez de AvilésSt. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the United States. There’s a lot to recommend a city that old, including charming colonial architecture and a lot of history - not just stretching back centuries but also including its beginnings as a tourism mecca during the Victorian era, the early 20th century, and even the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s.  And of course ghosts. A city that old has a lot of history to haunt -- a lot of death and despair to permeate the landscape -- and the spirits of St. Augustine are sufficient to keep a multitude of ghost tour operators very busy providing a frenzy of frightful fun. And one recent All Hallow´s Eve I tagged along on a couple of them.
