You contact the airline through which you have your membership. My Star Alliance points are credited to my Aeroplan account, so I contact them. If your account is with Continental or American, you would contact them with details of the flights, carriers, etc. you travelled on.

thanks both--I have all my boarding passes and guess I'm now trying to figure out the retroactive credit (within past 6 months) and wondering if I supposed to deal with One World Alliance and say I flew on airline A and B and then to Star Alliance, and say I've flown airline A and B, etc.--or do I contact each individual airline, even those that I don't have an account with but have flown.

Sorry. all these details! I might also ask some travel agents but thought I'd get the pearls of wisdom here first. Thanks>

I make sure I ask at check-in, and keep all my boarding passes as a precaution. One note: sometimes the kind of ticket booked by a pr agency for a press trip won't qualify for ff miles; always good to check before you go. Get those miles!

Yeah, it's a hassle, but then aren't we fortunate to have such a problem? I have an Aeroplan account. So whenever I travel on a Star Alliance flight that isn't properly credited, I have to write them (you can do it on-line as well). But they will only let me go back six months.

I've learned to now check at check-in to ask the agent if my Aeroplan account is mentioned? I do that at the start of the trip and they add it to all flight segments. Since I mostly do foreign travel, I usually can't do a kiosk check-in, but if I can, I will still ask the agent at baggage drop off to check.

Next month I'm back in Europe and while the people who booked me, booked my preferred seats, they didn't include my Aeroplan number. No problem, I've written it on the ticket print out I've stuck in my travel folder so have already built that into the check in process.

Question about mileage credits! Previously unbeknowst to me, various agents, etc., who have booking travel for me on press trips have not been booking with my various FF numbers (despite me providing a traveler profile with all this info each time). ANYWAY, now trying to figure out how to get credit for many overseas trips this past year.

Does anyone know if I can do through one of the alliances, or do I have to get a FF account with each airline I've flown? I have have mileage accounts and travel from one or two individual airlines in each alliance, but that doesn't cover all the travel I've taken. Hope that made sense. Thanks!
