Located near the town of Khoms just under two hours east of capital Tripoli and founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BCE, this ancient city was a major population center of the Carthaginian and later Roman empire. Today it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is among the best preserved arhcaeological ruins in the Mediterranean.
