DeseoTravel.com Our planet's vast, remote, southernmost continent - larger than Europe - is a much-coveted "final frontier" for many travelers. And booking Antarctica vacation packages via cruise ship offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see frozen landscapes that can't be seen anywhere else along with a plethora of polar wildlife. With vacation packages typically ranging from one to three weeks, cruise ships departing from Argentina's Tierra del Fuego make the two-day crossing through the…

Unsurprisingly, eco-tour operators rank high among 'Travel/Hospitality Businesses Taking the Lead in Environmental Protection'

Various land-based outfits observe many of similar self-imposed rules. For example, Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT), part of the Grand Circle Corporation family of companies, connects customers with the people and cultures of destinations around the world (such as Ecuador's Galapagos Islands (top), working to convey knowledge of and respect for local communities as well as supporting a variety of enterprises, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship projects. South America's iconic vicuñas

Visitors to part of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru (where it's the national animal and is even on the country's coat of arms) may come across this quintessential South American mammal, a camelid related to guanacos, llamas, and alpacas (which are descended from vicuñas) The smallest of the camelids, vicuñas stand about three feet tall at the shoulder; weigh between 70 and 150 pounds; and have long necks and legs as well as relatively small heads with long pointed ears.  …

  • Regrettably, we must add our voice to calls for a tourism boycott of Uganda, a country with much ecotourism potential but which has let virulent bigotry - much of it from anti-gay hate groups in the U.S. - lead its parliament and president to enact a draconian and barbaric law imposing prison and in some cases even the death penalty for homosexual practices. This has no place in a civilized world, and visitors have many other options when it comes to exploring African wildlife and local cultures So until this madness is stopped, please refrain from supporting it with your tourism business. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/news/calls-for-a-tourist-boycott...

  • There's a lot packed into Singapore's 283 square miles, but visitors don't often think of ecotourism as a draw here. • A couple of months ago, The Guardian ran a thought-provoking piece called "Can the Tourism Industry Survive the Climate Crisis?" It began: "One of the terrible ironies of the climate crisis is that some of the most beautiful – and popular – places in the world are also the most vulnerable. Which means as temperatures rise, extreme weather events increase, water sources dry up and natural habitats die, these places are facing another devastating loss: tourists." And proceeded to cite several case studies - mostly ecotourism stalwarts - that paint a fairly grim picture. A sobering read: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/dec/02/tourism-industr...
