The city´s single most notable landmark is these early fortifications built by the Portuguese and later the Spanish beginning in the 16th century. The Murallas Reales are considered one of the best-preserved defensive complexes on either side of the Strait of Gibraltar. There´s really nothing in the way of exhibitions here, but it´s hard not to be impressed by its sheer massiveness.
