  • Actually I have been following EuroControl for up-to-date situation of air traffic.

  • If you're following the volcanic ash cloud disruption like I am (as the government tourist office, we have journalists and tour operators heading to/back from Wales), the BBC's regularly updated live feed page is providing to be the most up-to-the-minute resource.

For example, they just announced that: "Both its long and short haul flights in and out of the UK will be suspended on Sunday, British Airways has confirmed." Taking the cancelations into a fourth day.

Live coverage as ash from the Iceland volcano continues to cause massive disruption to air travel across Europe.
  • Thanks for sharing Darryl. I am still reading the narrative.
  • The final chapter of Tim's Trip Planning 101 series is now online at The World on Wheels. He's been planning a baseball trip to Ohio and Missouri. Take a look at just what it takes to plan a trip with a wheelchair: http://tinyurl.com/y2zgny2

  • The latest, from Travel Weekly: Six U.S. Democratic senators say they will push for a law to designate carry-on bags as essential air travel items, making it possible for the federal government to tax any revenue carriers collect from fees charged to bring bags aboard.

This will hopefully stop other airlines from following in Spirit's ill-conceived footsteps!!
  • I wonder what % of Spirit's pax base is business traveler ? As a FF, I have never checked my luggage for the past decade plus. I have regulation size carry on, and a laptop+electronic bag. One of the advantage of exiting as fast as possible from the airport on arrival. I am not the only one doing this, majority of frequent flyers do. If other airlines follow they will have a mass shifting of allegiances.
  • A little more creativity and I think there would have been a way to do this differently. Possibly....how about something like making a reservation for your carry on bag at no charge at time of booking--until the inventory has been exhausted...from then on customers would be told that carry on space was no longer available and they would have to check their bags. Might take some studies but in the end, those paying higher fares, with elite status, and those booking early would receive the space. Isn't that something the revenue management people could figure out?
  • Hey Mr Kipper, here's the video of Spirit Airlines' CEO explaining the new carry-on fee. Enjoy!
