    Hi everybody, I've got a query for you birders. This bird (see attached photos) has my wife and I stumped. From the rear, it looks like a California Towhee. From the front, a female house finch. It's about 3/2 the size of an adult towhee and acts like one. I'm guessing a juvenile towhee. Anybody see anything different?

    Just watched the video, Terry, and that is indeed a strange-tailed bird. Earlier this morning I got a good, long look at the red-tailed hawk that lives in Washington Square Park. Don't know if it's eating pigeons or rodents, but eat hearty, my friend.

    Recently past the 1,000 birds worldwide list! Peanuts compared to some, but the goal is to enjoy the common birds as well as the rare ones. Great horned owl in Central Park, New York, recently, but my favourite so far anywhere has to be a Strange-tailed tyrant in the middle of nowhere in the Esteros de Iberá in Corrientes Province. Here is a video of this unique thing. It floats almost.
