isogood One of the most famous destinations along this route is an unincorporated community that's long been a resort destination for the well heeled, especially famous for its seven golf courses, such as Cypress Point Club, Monterey Peninsula Country Club, and Pebble Beach Golf Links, as well as the scenic 17th-Mile-Drive, meandering along the beaches and forests between Monterey and Carmel. There's a $10 fee to enter the area.   read post

  • Hello,

There are 3 golf courses near Gdansk:

Sierra Golf Club www.sierragolf.plo/en located 25 kms from the Gdynia Harbour where most cruise vessels arrive from mid-May till mid-September.

Transfer from the pier to the golf course takes 40 minutes. From Gdansk Airport about 30-40 minutes.

Another one is Postolowo Golf and Country Club  http://www.golf.com.pl/

The Postołowo Golf Club in Gdansk  ranked 2008/2009 by Golf Digest as the best golf course in Poland and 84th on the list of TOP100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/productdetails.asp?id=1152

It is also also the  second  longest PAR 72 golf  course in Europe with a length of 7101 meters from the back tees.

In 2006 the course was lengthened to 7766 yards/ 7101 meters when 9 new back tees were constructed.

Described by the German GOLF JOURNAL in 2004  already as a "monster", after extending the back tees it has now become from the tips one of the most challenging golf courses in the world. Several of the new back tees in Postołowo were constructed on the recommendations of Mr. Mikael Ericsson, the director of the PGA European Tour who visited the course in 2004.

5The quiet village of Postołowo is situated 26 kilometres from busy Gdansk. Gdansk, in turn, together with Sopot and Gdynia (known in Poland as the Tri-City forms a municipal conurbation with a population of almost 1 million.

The Tri-City area plays an important role in the economic and cultural life of the nation. It is also a major tourist centre with several million people visiting every year to relax on the sandy beaches of Sopot, to enjoy the charm and atmosphere of old Gdansk and the attractions of modern Gdynia. The surrounding area includes the Kashubian Lakes with their picturesque countryside close to Postołowo. The Postołowo area itself is blessed with the sandy soil every golf superintendent dreams of. The native vegetation is beech wood with oak and plantations of pine.

volvoBeing the second largest city in Poland, the Tri-City area has very strong links. Germany, Denmark, the U.K and Scandinavia are only one to two hours away by plane with several flights daily to many of their cities. Warsaw is also within easy reach being only 30 minutes away by plane and the airport of Gdansk is only 25 minutes away from the Postołowo Golf Club. The rail connections between Gdansk and the Capital are also excellent .There are ferry connections to Karlskrona and Oxelosund in Sweden and Helsinki in Finland . THE COURSE DESIGN

The well-known course architect, Mr Jeremy Turner when designing the course said:

"THE COURSE ITSELF WILL BE QUITE SPECTACULAR WITH THE MAGNIFICENT LAKE OFFERING BREATHTAKING POSSIBILITIES FOR DRAMATIC GOLF HOLES"

What I have tried to do with this beautiful tract of land was to create a golf course that is really a challenge to the good player. At the same time, I wanted to make it very enjoyable for the higher handicap players.
British-born Jeremy Turner is a renowned golf course architect, working mostly in Sweden. He has some 20 courses under his belt and he was, judging from the above words, obviously quite impressed with the site of the Postołowo Golf Club. Before we follow Jeremy out on what he think will be a Championship course, let us just take a moment to explain the holes marked with an A on the drawing. These make up the Academy Course, the ideal complement to the big course. Here the beginner has excellent practice facilities on a short hole circuit built to the same high standards as the main course. The means of achieving this is of course to create alternative routes from tee to green. I think a good course should start with a fairly easy first hole, which minimises the effect of first tee nerves and gets you in a relaxed mood. So our first here is just that, a rather straightforward medium length par 4. It is quickly followed up by an indication of what lies ahead. The second is much tougher, demanding a good drive to the centre of the fairway to set up a shot into a rather tight green. The third is the longish par 3, where deep guardian bunkers and a rolling green threateningly await loose balls. Already at the fourth, one stands by the lake, deciding how much to bite off with the driver. The water follows the alarmingly narrow fairway all the way to the green, which curls around the end of the bay. The fifth heads out into the country-side sharply doglegging right. The long second shot to the slightly elevated green may leave a few players having to take out a sand wedge instead of the putter. The short par 4 sixth will hopefully give you some breathing space before you have to contend with the long seventh. There two good woods will set you up with merely a chip to the elevated green. The eight is a short hole with an adequately bunkered green set among the majestic rolling sand hills. At the par 5 ninth only the very longest of hitters will have a chance of getting on in two. Most others will have to take shots to stay out of water and other trouble. The back nine are probably more awesome in that water appears on seven more holes. A compensating feature however, is that the character and location of the hazards are so richly varied. The tenth, eleventh and twelfth are however dry holes. Two rather longish par 4's with a reasonably short par 3 in between. But water again threatens the approach on the rather short par 4 thirteenth. The waterless fourteenth with all its bunkers is the last chance you'll have to get a breather before the onslaught of the finishing stretch. Hole fifteen is again a real test of driving onto a slightly convex landing area. A broad canal must also be carried on the way to a green placed on a peninsula. I believe this will be a formidable hole, requiring skill, nerve and strength. But if not frightened by this hole, the following par 3 will certainly do the trick. Over the lake to an elevated green of apparently repelling shape with beech woods close by. On the seventeenth you will need a big drive into a rising lakeside plateau if you are to catch a glimpse of the sculptured green perched beyond a deep ravine and again dangerously close to the water. The eighteenth back to the clubhouse is a mighty par 5 which again tempts the heroic shot to a generous green with water near at hand. My firm belief is that this course will provide a stimulating golf experience of which one will never tire. It will most certainly be a course with which I shall be proud to have been associated."

The initial layout and forerunner of the course design we see today was developed by Jeremy Turner in co-operation with well-known former Falsterbo GC Pro Peter Chamberlain, himself a golf course architect. The course is built according to the strict USGA standards. Because of the course quality the Club has already staged tow major championships. They were:

    The POLISH OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS 1997 , 1998 & 2007 .
2002 the 22nd EUROPEAN YOUTH TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP as well
2008 The EUROPEAN MID AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP .
