The Dominican Republic´s Amber Museum

The Museo del Ámbar is located in downtown Puerto Plata, on the north coast.  With a Jurassic Park-like logo and an interesting and educational collection of amber and other local semiprecious materials (including pieces for sale), it’s housed in a charming Victorian townhouse called Villa Bentz.     I adore the Berkshires! Will all due respect to my beautiful home state of Washington, I think western Massachusetts is one of the most beautiful places I've been. My sig other and I once rented an old house in Great Barrington, and I could swear it was haunted, I kept hearing all these funny sounds. But anyway, somehow I missed the Norman Rockwell museum -- guess I'll have to go back!

    What a great idea a site for museums. I used to attend international conferences for ICOM. Their site "icommuseums" based in Paris and after 25 years of living ten minutes out of DC says it all. Ed I remember Kenneth Keating? People from the Midwest or AZ might remember the greal real estate scams of the Eastvolds. Have you noticed how many of these white collar crime guys end up in NC prisons close to Duke so they can get the best medical care?

    The Berkshires in Massachusetts is a museum-lover's paradise. We hit three on a short vacation, and there are still many more, such as the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass.

    The Hood Museum of Art in Hanover, New Hampshire, has two terrific special exhibits running through mid-September: "Made in Hollywood" and Andy Warhol. For lunch, try Canoe Club Bistro , a popular nearby restaurant with inspired food and a nice wine list, plus great people-watching (ask for a table by the window). Or, check out the Dirt Cowboy Cafe for great coffee and pastry. Everything within walking distance.

    The Dallas Morning News just ran my little story on "Scandal!" at the Museum of American Finance, a fascinating place in a grand building that attracts more out-of-towners than New Yorkers. Interesting thing about this exhibition, which targets Charles Ponzi, WorldCom, Enron, Lehman Brothers, Bernie Madoff, etc., is that it doesn't include Kenneth Keating. Anyone remember him? Should he be in this exhibition?

    There are some excellent wine museums around the world. I recently wrote a blog post about the best wine museums specifically in Europe and also invited people to add extras in the comments. Here's the link to it, which I hope is helpful. If anyone here wants to add any more even though the post was a while back, I will approve the comments quickly, providing they are adding new good European wine museums!
    Sorry I can't give you any generic wine museum sites to add to your list above.
