With lots of open spaces where the buffalo roam but relatively few people, touristically it's big on pioneer history sites, especially along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, as well as ecotourism in its famed Badlands. And for a taste of urbanity, there's always Fargo and Bismarck.
