The USA's most populous state is practically a country unto itself, divided between green north and arid south. Highlights: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Diego, Napa/Sonoma wine country, Disneyland, redwood country, skiing, driving the Pacific Coast Highway, and lots more.

Our hearts go out to the people of Los Angeles County who have lost their homes and in some cases lives in the horiffic wildfires. To learn how to help, click here.

NoCal´s Greenhorn Guest Ranch on of the top 10 for wellness in the USA & Canada

A little over four hours northeast of San Francisco, in the little known and aptly named Lost Sierra (hidden between the larger Sierra Nevada and Cascade ranges, the name coined at the time when Pony Express riders galloped through Northern California to deliver the mail). Fitting then, that this is the only dude ranch in the Golden State that allows its guests to go faster than a walk on a horse – riders hitting the trail and breathing in fresh mountain air scented by the pine, fir and cedar…

This L.A. sign is among Google´s top most-searched spots in the USA - but not the one you think

David Vives/Pexels Coming in ninth on the top ten list is a Los Angeles sign - but not the famous one that spells HOLLYWOOD. This landmark identifies Beverly Hills (above), the affluent Los Angeles neighborhood that’s associated with lavish estates owned by celebrities; the 40-foot emblem we see today in the linear Beverly Gardens Park is actually a replica of one built in 1907. During spring and summer, a beautiful pond in front of the letters comes alive with blooming lilies, making for the…

  • This has been a fun blog to follow.  Hey Darryl, when are you coming to Carlsbad?  You will be pleasantly suprised.  We're coastall on San Diego County's scenic north shore and lots of fun dining and water sports, great lagoons for walking and birding, The Museum of Making Music, LEGOLAND and SeaLife Aquarium.  I would be happy to show you some of our hidden gems.
  • Meredith, the best restaurants we found in Paso Robles were Springside for breakfast, Joe's Place for breakfast or lunch, and Buona Tavola for dinner.  A short drive would also take you to the coast where we like Hoppe's in Cayucos. Click on the links to go to each restaurant's web page.

  • We are planning on visiting Paso Robles in Sept for our Son's Wedding at the Cass Winery.  It will be our first visit and we are looking forward to the wine tasting.  Got some good tips from The World on Wheels link on which wineries to check out.  Any other tips on must see places or must vist restaurants would be appreciated.

  • At The World on Wheels today, in California's Central Valley, professional baseball has a long history. On today's brand new Fields of Dreams review, we profile a stadium and team that has been playing here for 65 years. It's the Diamondbacks single A team, the Rawhide, and Recreation Park in Visalia: http://tinyurl.com/4xqxbk8
