Siam, I said... This Buddhist kingdom (with notoriously thin-skinned royals!) remains a stunning destination, from the hurly-burly of to its Golden Triangle to its voluptuous beaches.

8 of Thailand´s Beautiful Lesser Known Destinations

CEphoto, Uwe Aranas When planning a trip to Thailand, the images that often spring to mind are those of golden pagodas; buzzing markets and nightlife in Bangkok; and the busy beaches of Phuket. • ARE YOU TIRED OF BANGKOK AND YOU WANT SOMEWHERE TO RELAX? KOH TAO (...

    SAM_5926.JPG

Bangkok is a wonderful city, but it is also so noisy and tiring than after a few days you will have enough of it. Thailand offers you many alternatives.
You may decide to take the train North. In 2 hours you will be admiring the beautiful temples of Ayutthaya with the worldwide famous Buddha in the Tree or you may head much more North and reach Chiang Mai with its beautiful pagoda temples.
Ayutthaya and Chang Mai are two great destinations I can only recommend them, but not if what you want is some relax, beautiful beaches and above all: the sea!
In that case Kho Tao (or if you prefer Ko Tao) is the righ place for you.

  • Dear Thailand PR executive and/or luxury hotelier,

My wife and I are travelling around the world on a 500-day honeymoon. In each region we visit we pick one luxury boutique hotel to partner with exclusively for said region. We post two articles per resort on Honeymoons.com as well as numerous social media posts across Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Foursquare, Instagram, YouTube, etc..and most importantly each partner becomes the exclusive resort in their respective region on Honeymoons.com for an entire year (at no cost to any party, 100% barter) - If anyone in this group represents a luxury hotelier/resort in Thailand, we would love to talk more. Please drop us a line (MikeAnne@HoneyTrek.com) and we can answer any questions and forward over our formal proposal for your review.

    Sincerely,
    Mike & Anne

  • Just caught this from the Bangkok Post about Thailand's withdrawal from the World Heritage Convention:

"Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has defended the decision to withdraw Thailand from Unesco's World Heritage Convention, saying its approval of Cambodia's management plan for Preah Vihear temple would put the country at a disadvantage."

Wow...so I wonder what are the implications, if any for Thailand's five existing UNESCO World Heritage Sites, like Sukhothai and so forth...has anybody heard?

  • The Guardian reports: The culture minister of Thailand wants to put a ban on Buddhist tattoos on non-Buddhist visitors.

"Tourists visiting Thailand should be barred from getting culturally insensitive Buddhist tattoos, the culture ministry says.

Niphit Intharasombat, the culture minister, said residents have complained that tattoo parlours are etching sacred images of Buddha and other religious images on to the skin of non-Buddhist visitors.

"Foreigners see these tattoos as fashion," Niphit said on the ministry's website.

They do not think of respecting religion, or they may not be aware that these tattoos can be offensive, he added. "

    Is he overreacting?
