  • @Susan, Asus also comes with online storage via their server as a bonus.  I can't remember how much, I want to say 20GB, because I haven't used it yet.
  • Yes, it runs Win 7 and functions as a regular PC.  We have the entire, full, Microsoft Office suite on it and it runs great.
  • I can't answer that yet. My friend lives across the province from me, so has yet to deliver it.

Because I'm ever so slightly paranoid about losing stuff (I lost the greatest, most detailed notes in Ireland... and a former office of mine burned to the ground) I plan on dumping images into two memory sticks when I travel. Given how cheap they are, I like to double-cover my ass.
  • I'm no professional photographer, Susan, but I'm glad you asked that question. Allan and Darryl, can you open multiple windows without slowing things down to a crawl?
  • Hi Laura, as a writer and photographer, leaving for New Mexico soon, I'd really like to know how to use the Windows 7 Cloud? If I could send photos to Dropbox.com, this might work. Otherwise, I think I'll just copy them to a 16 GB flash drive.
  • As well as price, weight is an important issue for me. Every ounce counts. I'm waiting for the Acer to arrive, but my teckkie friend has been testing it. He's added Skype. He's sent me attachments that I have been able to open on my Mac. It has 250 GB of memory and somewhere north of 8 hours of battery life.

I saw them on sale at Staples this week for $249.
  • Wow!  Thanks for the tech comments everyone.  We travel with an old Sony Viao.  It is heavy and is starting to slow down.  With a limited budget, I'm really attracted to the Acer (Allan).  I'm getting ready to head to Bogota and I' struggling with whether to bring the Sony laptop or not.
  • A year now, still going very strong.
  • For travel, I double Darryl's suggestion of an Asus Eee-PC. I don't like it has much as my MacBook Air, but at 1/5th the cost I feel better about banging it around on the road.

Blog post at Spot Cool Stuff: Tech : It is amazing the kind of lightweight, long battery life laptop $350 will buy these days. That's the going rate…
  • Darryl, how long have you been using it?
