While serving in the U.S. Army in Europe in the 1950s, he got the travel bug, came out with a travel guide for servicemen, and followed up in 1957 with…

What do you wear to Seven Magic Mountains?

Seven Magic Mountains is an art installation located in the Nevada desert, and the weather can be quite hot and dry. • Indeed. I also couldn't use my mobile phone or the internet. And I had to change my Aussie dollars to Yankee dollars - they love those. Even though it's illegal for the locals to possess any dollars it's a happy exchange when the dollars flash. I recommend anyone who visits there to spend most of their money at street stalls and local food outlets so the locals keep the dosh! And as soon as oil is found there WILL be foreign investment - from Asia and the USA
  • I'm sure you discovered, Bev, that you could not use your credit card in Burma. No way there will be the kind of foreign investment needed to build resorts as long as the generals are in charge.
  • Burmese elephants are quite literate - but I suspect he was just looking at the pictures to commit them to memory!
  • A fascinating image, Bev, what with the baby elephant and the young Burmese woman reading an English-language magazine out there.
  • Shamelessly exploiting a one year old elephant in the jungle in Burma (Myanmar) a few weeks back. Visited Yangon (Rangoon) and went on a six hour bumpy drive to the coast. Had a swim in the Bay of Bengal too. Long, pristine beaches that, I expect, in a decade or sooner will be populated with fancy resorts - all depends on the military governmen9012285257?profile=originalt - maybe they love seaside holidays too . . .
  • Have updated ny blog with a story on North east England and the 'seaside'. Australians have never taken the English seaside very seriously but it does hahttp://getupandgomagazine.blogspot.comve its own charm and the towns by the sea are interesting and tres jolie!
  • South China Morning Post needs some writers who cover luxury travel. I write advertorial for the luxury travel market, but they say they're looking for people who do pure editorial. And they want newsy angles and luxury hotel reviews rather than straight destination stories.
Here's the SCMP contacts page. I don't know which editor oversees travel or what the Morning Post pays.
