How nervous flyers can increase their sense of control whilst flying

FG TradeOne of the key causes of anxiety and stress for fearful flyers is their perceived lack of control. This in turn can make them avoid air travel – limiting their lives considerably – and if they do get on a plane, cause them suffering. While it’s true that as passengers we have no control over the flight itself (fortunately), this doesn’t mean that there’s nothing anxious flyers can do to feel that they do have some control over the situation. And here are five simple ways you can do…

  • The latest, from Travel Weekly: Six U.S. Democratic senators say they will push for a law to designate carry-on bags as essential air travel items, making it possible for the federal government to tax any revenue carriers collect from fees charged to bring bags aboard.

This will hopefully stop other airlines from following in Spirit's ill-conceived footsteps!!
  • I wonder what % of Spirit's pax base is business traveler ? As a FF, I have never checked my luggage for the past decade plus. I have regulation size carry on, and a laptop+electronic bag. One of the advantage of exiting as fast as possible from the airport on arrival. I am not the only one doing this, majority of frequent flyers do. If other airlines follow they will have a mass shifting of allegiances.
  • A little more creativity and I think there would have been a way to do this differently. Possibly....how about something like making a reservation for your carry on bag at no charge at time of booking--until the inventory has been exhausted...from then on customers would be told that carry on space was no longer available and they would have to check their bags. Might take some studies but in the end, those paying higher fares, with elite status, and those booking early would receive the space. Isn't that something the revenue management people could figure out?
  • Hey Mr Kipper, here's the video of Spirit Airlines' CEO explaining the new carry-on fee. Enjoy!

  • Low airfares that vanish in a click!!! the story of my Life, I received calls from frustrated travelers trying to book fares that vanished or never existed all day long, buying a ticket in the first 5 minutes of search, perhaps is not the smartest thing to do unless you are buying a ticket under $150.00 , round trip with all taxes and fees included,
9 out of 10 requests , we (travel agents) can find the same or better options for our clients in our systems , we can see all options in one screeen and can hold the seats for our clients at least until the end of the day (midnight) to help them plan and continue with hotel or car rentals. Use a travel professional and travel confident that you paid the best available. Then enjoy your "Voyage".
  • Ever try to buy a low airfare online, and before you know it, the airfare shot up? It's happened to me.... and apparently more than a few others. Check out Christopher Elliott's Low airfares that vanish in a click on CNN.com.

At one point have you decided you'll no longer fly: 400-mile trips? 800-mile trips?
And if we can have peace and harmony between consumers and manufacturers of electronics, why can't airlines and passengers? Also, how do you think this will all end?
