Eurovision (this year in Malmö, Sweden) is a big motivator for European and other gay travelers

SVT/EBU The world´s premier song contest - and likened by many to a LGBTQ blockbuster event on the order of the World Cup or U.S. Super Bowl - just completed its spectacular 68th edition with the usual lineup of singing, dancing, special effects, silliness and seriousness, pulling in a TV audience of hundreds of millions plus many thousands of fans who flocked to Sweden´s third city from 90 countries (and I´ll venture to say more than half of them were gay). Plus this year there was a degree…

3 of Europe's most gay/LGBTQ-welcoming cities

SolStock Welcome once again to Pride month, celebrated in increasing numbers of destinations around the world - although also under pressure in some of them, sadly even including part of the United States, the very country where the celebration of Pride originated. Of course, depending on where you go, travelling while LGBT+ can be a challenge, particularly if you're with a same-sex partner and/or if you are visibly queer. Sadly, there are still many countries where being gay is still…

LGBTQ+ Danger Index rates countries for both locals and visitors

Just came across a Guardian piece published a few weeks ago with some interesting findings from something called the LGBTQ+ Danger Index, which ranks the world's 150 most-visited countries using eight factors, including legalized same-sex marriage, worker protection and whether, based on Gallup poll findings, it is a good place to live. Sweden comes in first, followed by Canada, Norway, Portugal and Belgium. My adopted country Spain comes in at number 10, but my native country the USA is just…

    by Heather Cassell

Life has been a party for Leigh Cousins and Mandy Randhawa promoters of award-winning FlyGirl Productions, a queer women’s party company based in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

FlyGirl Productions’ monthly parties and all-girl festivities during Vancouver Pride have been a sellout affair for thirteen years, they say.

Next weekend, the girls are taking their party on the road to Calgary, Alberta, where they are throwing their first Hershe Day Club post-Calgary Pride party.

“It’s kind of exciting to go to a place that is at the forefront of change,” says Leigh, about hosting their first post-Pride party in the formerly conservative province, Alberta.

Only a short few years ago many Pride Parade marchers donned masks during their celebrations in fear of being “noticed,” says Leigh. What’s changed is the population has swelled upward of just more than 1 million people, according to a 2011 census, and “new blood in the political system” has turned the conservative government’s tide.

For years, Vancouver girls who relocated to Calgary along with Calgary’s girls who attended FlyGirl Production’s Vancouver Pride parties have begged Leigh and Mandy to bring the party to them. Finally, the two women couldn’t resist the enticement anymore.

The party is the first for Leigh and Mandy in Calgary. They’ve thrown wildly successful monthly parities, Hershe Bar, in Vancouver for more than a decade, most notably during Vancouver Pride Weekend. - See more at: http://girlsthatroam.com/?p=2682#sthash.GqM19wVX.dpuf
