Of course, depending on where you go, travelling while LGBT+ can be a challenge, particularly if you're with a same-sex partner and/or if you are visibly queer. Sadly, there are still many countries where being gay is still…

LGBTQ+ Danger Index rates countries for both locals and visitors

Just came across a Guardian piece published a few weeks ago with some interesting findings from something called the LGBTQ+ Danger Index, which ranks the world's 150 most-visited countries using eight factors, including legalized same-sex marriage, worker protection and whether, based on Gallup poll findings, it is a good place to live. Sweden comes in first, followed by Canada, Norway, Portugal and Belgium. My adopted country Spain comes in at number 10, but my native country the USA is just…

How should travelers/travel industry respond to Brunei's barbarism against gays?

Many voices in the civilized world have been speaking out in horrified outrage at Brunei's new edict  decreeing death by stoning for gay sex, and numerous individuals and institutions joining a boycott. Should travelers and the travel industry/media join as well by not traveling to, working with, or covering Brunei, nor other entities associated with it such as the nine luxury hotels in the West owned by its sultan, such as London's Dorchester, the Plaza Athénée in Paris, and the Beverly Hills…

  • today are the elections to allow the same-sex marriage in Argentina. We hope our politicians vote for the right option: YES, ALLOWED. Argentina will become a good gay destination if so. Though i think that should be a law in every country.

  • Anyone interested in a French Fling? I just returned from my second visit to New Caledonia - it's near Vanuatu and Fiji - and have investigated the gay-welcoming properties and tour operators, not to mention eateries and dance club venues. It's a whole new style of destination for those who want a South Pacific experience in the French Territory. Bon Voyage. See my latest stories on newcaledonia.rainbowtourism.com by the end of the week.

  • Mardi Gras Fair Day is 21 Feb. - but we won't be there representing our worldwide clients. Silly buggers cow-towed to a sponsor who said no promotion of destinations outside of NSW. Mardi Gras not only lost revenue in excess of the sponsor's support level, but they have angered many travel and tour operators, They are members of IGLTA but wouldn't even let IGLTA brochures and members have a stall. What makes it worse is that they did not notify us of the restriction until just weeks before the show, well after lots of preparation and printing had commenced. I personally am boycotting the event.
This is NOT the first year that there's been controversy over Fair Day stalls, but this one has pissed off more than 100 fellow travel-related companies, all of whom have promoted Mardi Gras to their inbound visitors, as Rainbow Tourism always has.
    What's your thought?
