This trio of islands each offer something a little different. St. Thomas is the busy cruise port, resorts, and shopping mecca. St. Croix has more history and fewer resorts. And St. John is mostly national park, along with a mix of fancy upscale and budget camping resorts. A little something for everyone!

In St Croix, history, horticulture & hospitality reside at The Buccaneer Resort

The Manor House, which is still in use today, was built in 1653 by the Knights of Malta. The sugar mill, constructed in 1733, now serves as a venue for weddings. • I still have memories of my very first time snorkeling - it was 1973 off a resort beach (I don´t remember which one) in St. Croix, and I was so entranced that I would spend what seemed like hours at it. Of course, it was also my first experience with the strong Caribbean sun - not being savvy enough to wear sunscreen and/or a long-sleeve shirt - and so all those hours floating and paddling face down left me with a sunburn that made my back resemble a pizza marinara. Ouch. But oh, those fish and those corals! Anyway, here´s a little look at some of the island´s best snorkeling spots: https://snorkelaroundtheworld.com/snorkeling-in-st-croix/

  • For the most part, the USVI isn't exactly what you'd call an inexpensive destination, but penny-pinching travel site ADimeSaved.com just came out with a guide to visiting St. Croix on the (relatively) cheap: https://adimesaved.com/st-croix-on-a-budget
  • An interesting historical spot in Charlotte Amalie: dedicated in 1833, the Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas is the oldest synagogue building in continuous use under the U.S. flag and the second oldest in the Western Hemisphere.
