My Hanoi Street Food Tour

9009185258?profile=originalCIAT International Center for Tropical Agriculture

It was the first time I visited Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city. It’s chaotic, buzzing - and hungry - with a lot of interesting things to do. Before visiting Hanoi, my friend recommended me to try street food in Hanoi, especially in Hanoi Old Quarter which is a paradise of street food and the tastiest food place in the capital.

Honestly, all my knowledge of Vietnamese food barely stretched beyond pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) and  banh mi (baguet

Malaysia's Amazing Langkawi Sky Bridge

9009182892?profile=original

Without any doubt, Sky Bridge is the most interesting place in this archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 kilometers off the coast of northwestern Malaysia. In general, Langkawi has few attractions apart from its famous beaches, duty-free zone, and resort atmosphere. However, this ropeway to a 708-meter mountain and the legendary bridge is something you will remember forever.

Personally (and I'm not alone), I consider Sky Bridge one of the seven wonders of the world, though it h

Best ways to Transfer Money Overseas

You may work abroad or perhaps own a rental property overseas, perhaps you just make regular money transfers internationally for a mortgage, pension, or to a loved one. Regardless of the why what’s important is that you know how to get the best exchange rate possible when transferring your cash. If you don’t know how… you could be losing serious amounts of money because of bad exchange rates (and hidden fees).

Ah yes, the hidden charges – the bane of everyone’s existence when it comes to monetary

Tunisian Jews on the French Riviera:

We first met Claudine a Thursday afternoon in October in a kosher butcher shop in Cannes. A kashruth sign in a store window in the old section of town had caught our attention. Although we knew there is a sizable Jewish population on the French Riviera, the Hebrew lettering somehow came as a surprise. It led us to step inside just as Claudine, gathering up her packages, was about to leave.  An impromptu conversation ensued during which she determined who we were and where we were from.

In spring, they say, the fragrance of orange blossoms is so intoxicating you are likely to swoon. We will have to come back. It was early January when we were in Seville, and the ubiquitous orange trees were still bright with brimming fruit. The image lingers along with those of azuelos, Andalusian ceramic tiles, embedded in sidewalks and garden walls; myrtle hedges surrounding flower beds where lilies bloomed and white pigeons circled above; Moorish domes and Gothic towers beneath a pe

Quick, what’s Africa’s largest country? If you said CongoLibya, or South Africa, well, yes, they’re certainly up there, but the answer is Libya’s (plus Morocco’s and Tunisia’s) next-door neighbor Algeria – bigger than Alaska plus California put together, or nearly three times the size of the British Isles. It shares many allures in common with Morocco and Tunisia, but although it has been a major trading partner for Europe (especially in petrol and natural gas), touristically it ha

My First Time in Iceland

9009178656?profile=originalPixabay

My solo travels have mostly taken me throughout North America; but this last trip stretched my independence and my endurance. I was originally intrigued when several months ago I saw an online mention of airfare to Reykjavik from Los Angeles for $200. Wow, I cannot fly anywhere in the US for that price, so I made a mental note. Of course, by the time I had decided that I would venture to Iceland, the price had doubled; but it was still an unbelievable deal. I booked one week in Iceland a

Ach, du liebe!
It’s that sudsy time of year again, as Germany’s Oktoberfest begins anew later this month. When many of us think “beer”, Deutschland naturally springs readily to mind – and for some, perhaps also Belgium, known for some distinctive brews of its own. But after more than a quarter century recovering from its unfortunate 20th-century stint behind the Iron Curtain of the Cold War decades and resulting beer-industry degradation, the beer-pioneering Czechs are once ag
