The Everest Base Camp Trek's second-day Itinerary is from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. There are a few hours of climbing at the end of the route, making it a lengthy day walk. The following morning, after breakfast at the guesthouse in Phakding, you start walking in the direction of Namche Bazaar. From Phakding, getting to Namche takes about 6-7 hours. After walking from Phakding (2,610m/8,562 feet) to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,286 feet), you gain 8,30m/2,723 feet.
At the end of Phakding's main town, you cross a suspension bridge and walk for an additional thirty minutes to reach Zamfute. You pass a little iron bridge here in Zamfute, observe a community micro-hydro station, and then climb for 10 minutes to reach Toktok Village. After visiting a small waterfall at the end of Toktok Village, you continue on a track that gradually climbs for a further 30 minutes to reach Bankar. You may enjoy the immaculate vista of Mt. Thamserku to the right as you ascend this section.
After walking across another suspension bridge in Bankar for fifteen minutes, you descend for five minutes and ascend for fifteen minutes to reach Monjo. You cross Monjo and arrive at the National Park checkpoint after twenty more minutes. Before arriving in Jorsalle for lunch, you descend ten minutes after passing the checkpoint and cross another suspension bridge.
Following lunch at Jorsalle, you cross a suspension bridge once more, spend forty-five minutes walking alongside the Dudhkoshi River, and then ascend for thirty minutes to reach the final and tallest suspension bridge. Higher and lower bridges are the two that exist. The lower one has a place where people can go bungee jumping. You climb through the pine forest to reach Namche Bazaar immediately after across its tallest bridge.
After crossing the bridge, the last portion of the Everest Base Camp Trek requires two to three hours of climbing. On a clear day, you can enjoy the first vista of Mount Everest and have some rest stops along the journey. Once you arrive in Namche Bazaar, the challenges of the ascent disappear from your mind, and you are left in awe of this distinctive Sherpa village with its vibrant architecture. After retiring for the evening at Namche Bazaar, you can visit and explore a variety of establishments, including pubs, grocery stores, coffee and pastry shops, guesthouses offering some luxurious overnight accommodations, and more.
For altitude training on Everest Region Treks such as Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lakes Trek, Everest High Passes Trek, Gokyo Lakes Trek, Renjo La Pass Trek, and Everest Base Camp Helicopter Return Trek, you spend two nights at Namche Bazaar. However, if you are doing the Everest View Trek, you do not need to stay two nights in Namche because you will visit Tengboche the day following Namche Bazaar, travel back to Lukla on the same route, and then take a flight back to Kathmandu.
