The quickest way to reach Everest Base Camp from Kathmandu is the helicopter tour. It is a luxurious option to explore the Everest Himalayas in a short time. For the traveler who does not have enough time for a long trek to the Khumbu Region or is unable to walk in the high altitudes and cold temperatures but is interested in exploring the Everest Himalayas and reaching very close to the world’s highest mountain, the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is the best option.
A 4-5 hour helicopter flight tour takes off from Kathmandu (mostly in the morning) every day and flies to Lukla. Lukla is a small and beautiful town on the lap of the Himalayas. There is a small airport in Lukla with a sloping runway. Numerous regular flights land at this airport, taking trekkers and stuff.
You will have the first landing in Lukla after Kathmandu for refueling. You will land here in around 10–15 minutes. You will see magnificent mountain views of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Sisapangma, Jugal, Gaurishankar, and Everest Himalayas with captivating landscapes, green hills, and traditional settlements while flying towards Lukla from Kathmandu. You will also see the pristine view of Mt. Dudhkunda and Kongde from Lukla while landing.
After refueling, you fly to Pheriche through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pangboche, and other traditional Sherpa villages and see amazing mountain views. Five people fly from Kathmandu on a helicopter to Pheriche and split into two different shuttles for the Kala Patthar landing. You will land at Kala Patthar for a short time, take pictures, and see the world’s highest mountain from very close, and then fly over the Everest Base Camp and Khumbu Glacier.
After completing two different shuttles from Pheriche, all five travelers will fly back to the Hotel Everest View, which is located on a hill station, and see magnificent mountain views with breakfast. Here, you land in around half an hour, but sometimes it can be more if the helicopter leaves for the rescue mission.
After breakfast, you will land back in Lukla again for refueling and fly to Kathmandu. It is a group-sharing tour, so individual travelers can also book this flight, and the operator manages the group. If you have four or five travelers, you can book the tour privately, or if you are on a honeymoon trip in Nepal and just your couple likes to fly over the mountains, you can also take this tour privately.
