Bear watching in Alaska offers many chances to spot bears. There are several places where you can see them, but two of the most popular spots are Denali Park.

Denali Park Street

To enjoy the best bear viewing in Alaska, you need to board a tour along Denali Park Street that is focused on seeing bears in the wild catching salmon. It's one of the more affordable ways for sighting bears while they're trying to catch salmon. The National Park Service has limited the area to 92 miles of Park Street, which helps keep the park wild and untouched.

One thing to note is that you might not get very close views. So it’s a good idea to bring binoculars. Some tour vehicles also have cameras that focus on wildlife and show the footage on a screen, so everyone can get a closer look.

Where to see polar bears in Alaska?

Polar bears live in the northern part of the state, where it's very cold. They spend most of their time on the ice. In late summer, they come to the shore near Trade Island to rest and feed. This happens near the Inupiat village of Kaktovik.

During this short period, you can take a tour from Fairbanks with a Northern Alaska tour company. You’ll travel to Kaktovik with a guide, then take a boat out to watch the bears from the water. It's common to see many bears feeding on a single whale carcass. These tours are only available for about a month each year, from August to September.
