Nagarkot is located 32 kilometers east of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. It lies at an altitude of 2,195 m on the Kathmandu Valley rim.

Due to the high elevation, Nagarkot has a cool, temperate climate. Winters can get quite cold, with temperatures dropping below freezing. Summers are mild and pleasant. You can reach this hill with about an hour and a half drive from Kathmandu. You can see an unblocked sunrise and sunset with magnificent mountain views. There is a day hiking route from Nagarkot to Changunarayan, and trekkers also reach here through the Chisapani Nagarkot trek.

Nagarkot is renowned for its Himalayan views, providing breathtaking vistas of mountains like Everest, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, and Dorje Lakpa on clear days. It has one of the broadest mountain views in Nepal.

Major attractions include views of the Himalayas, sunrise and sunset points, nature walks through pine forests and rhododendron gardens, temples like the Mahakali temple, and staying in the many resorts. Outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and camping are popular.

Nagarkot is one of Nepal's most popular hill stations and a major tourist spot. It offers a peaceful getaway from Kathmandu along with great views, attracting thousands of domestic and international visitors every year. Peak seasons are October–November and March–May.

It is easily accessible by road, located just 32 km from Kathmandu. Regular buses depart from Kathmandu to Nagarkot. The roads are winding uphill. Cars and taxis can also be hired for the 1-1.5-hour drive.
