Last Season Sailing in Croatia

Last Season Sailing in Croatia

Last week, I embarked on a late-season sailing adventure that was nothing short of spectacular. Departing from Split aboard a sleek sailing yacht with the experienced and ever-friendly Skipper Niko, we set our course southward toward Dubrovnik. Even though it was late in the season, the weather was absolutely perfect—clear skies, warm sunshine, and a gentle Adriatic breeze that made every moment on deck feel effortless and serene.

Our first overnight stop was the island of Brač, famous for its stunning beaches and charming towns. Arriving in the late afternoon, we anchored near Bol, where the iconic Zlatni Ratbeach stretched out like a golden ribbon into the turquoise sea. Walking along the waterfront, the town’s small, cobbled streets invited exploration, while seaside cafes offered a chance to enjoy fresh seafood and locally-produced wine. That evening, the sunset painted the sky in shades of pink and orange, and from the deck of the yacht, it felt like the world had slowed down just for us.

The following day, we continued south toward Korčula, an island that exudes history and charm. Skipper Niko guided us through calm waters, pointing out hidden coves perfect for a mid-day swim in crystal-clear waters. Arriving in Korčula town in the late afternoon, we were welcomed by its medieval streets and Venetian architecture. Walking through the old town felt like stepping back in time, with lantern-lit alleys and quiet squares creating an almost magical atmosphere. Anchoring overnight, we enjoyed a peaceful evening on the yacht, listening to the gentle lapping of the waves against the hull and the distant hum of the town’s nightlife.

The final leg of our journey took us toward the magnificent city of Dubrovnik. Sailing along the Dalmatian coast, the scenery gradually shifted from lush green hills and secluded coves to the dramatic cliffs and historic skyline of the walled city. The approach to Dubrovnik by sea is truly breathtaking, with the city’s ancient walls rising above the sparkling Adriatic—a perfect culmination to a serene, sun-soaked journey.

Throughout the trip, the combination of flawless weather, calm seas, and Niko’s expert guidance made every moment a joy. There was plenty of time to relax on deck, swim in secluded bays, and savor the feeling of the wind in our hair and the sun on our skin. The stops in Brač and Korčula added a rich sense of discovery and allowed us to immerse ourselves in local culture and cuisine, making the journey much more than just a passage between two points—it became a genuine experience of the Adriatic lifestyle.

By the time we reached Dubrovnik, the trip felt like a perfect escape from the everyday. Late-season sailing along Croatia’s coast offers all the beauty and charm of summer without the crowds, and this adventure—sunny days, quiet harbors, and unforgettable sunsets—proved it beyond a doubt. It was a journey I’ll remember for years, and one I’m already eager to repeat.
