Guyana at a Glance

Guyana at a Glance

Guyana is a country few people have heard of, but will soon be on everyone's'must-visit' list. This hidden gem is located between Brazil, Suriname, and Venezuela. It is located on the northernmost part of South America but is still considered part of the Caribbean due to its historical connection and culture. It has a Caribbean feel, with smiles and good vibes.

Guyana lies between the Amazon jungle and huge mountains. The great savannah plains make up the flat areas between these spaces. It is easy to see the beauty in every corner of the country after spending time there.

Nature at its best. It's not the right place for you if you love poolside cocktails, pampering and extravagant shopping sprees. That's precisely what the point is. Guyana is a paradise for adventurers. It is for those who still want to find their own "the beach".

There are several places to discover and learn more about this place. So, if you’re visiting and taking flights from Miami to Georgetown, Guyana, then take a stroll of the entire city and find out what’s hidden in those tiny bustling streets. Guyana Quick Information

Currency: Guyanese dollar (GYD).

Electricity Socket in Guyana: The power sockets and plugs are type A, B and D. The frequency is 60 Hz. We recommend purchasing a Universal Travel Adapter to avoid having to purchase new adapters for every place you travel.

Visa: Major passports don't require a visa prior to entry. They can be granted within 30 days of arrival. This can be extended at the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is always a good idea to keep up-to-date with the latest news!

Safety: A general internet search would reveal many warnings about high crime rates in Georgetown. As you would in any country, I would be cautious. My personal experience was that I felt safe. I met many strangers, made friends with homeless people, and felt welcome walking the streets looking for the next beer.

This is only my personal experience. Please be careful and remain safe, children. We have traveled all over the globe and know that we wouldn't leave our home without travel insurance.

Safety Wing or World Nomads are our top recommendations. Safety Wing has the best coverage of adventure activities, while World Nomads is the best for digital nomads thanks to their monthly plans.

PLANNING A GUYANA TRIP

The Best Time to Go

It is hot because it is so close to the Equator. Travelers can enjoy a tropical climate with temperatures ranging from 24 to 38 Celsius and cooling-off overnight. Most rain falls between May and July, but it can be a little later if you are in the interior.

Budget estimates

Guyana's cost of living is generally lower than the US, UK, and Canada. However, you won't live like a king. Prices are still relatively low compared to other South American countries. You can get a low-end meal for $5, and a beer for just $1.

There is a variance in accommodation prices depending on where you are located. The prices listed below are an approximate guide to Georgetown. Guyana, like many other countries, is a great place to travel. Flying is the best way to get to the country and move around in the country. The distances between cities are very large.

Language

Guyana's first language is English! It is a great thing that you can easily communicate with the locals in Guyana, as it makes it so much easier than other South American countries. However, there are still some differences!

It can be difficult to understand Guyanese speaking to one another. They will often use their own slang, and let their accents fly-adding some Carribean flair. But everyone can understand what you're saying, so keep that in mind.

Guyana: What to Bring

It is important to pack as little as possible for your trip to Guyana. You should take what I have been sharing with you and head to Guyana for an adventure. You're ready to go! Grab some sturdy hiking shoes and your flip-flops. Also, grab some high-quality, breathable clothes.

It's easier to pack light and less weight. It's hot, so it's easy to wash your clothes in the evening. They'll dry quickly in the morning. I took only a purse and no other items with me when I went. I brought only my clothes and my camera with me. Furthermore, I bought some shorts and shirts at a cheap price and was fine. This is something I wouldn't recommend, but it works. It doesn't take much to do this.

Things to do in Guyana

Guyana is the ideal place to go if you are an adventurer. Guyana is full of rugged adventures that are authentic, unspoiled, and raw. Guyana is a great place to visit. I highly recommend something epic.

Kaieteur Falls, one of the most impressive waterfalls in the world, is a must-see while visiting the country. Take an aerial flight to really see the falls in all their glory. I recommend being a cowboy and experiencing the ranch life. You can ride horses, lasso bulls and engage in saloon brawls. (The last one may not be true).

Our trip to Guyanese Savannah was one of the most memorable. We used ATVs and 4x4 trucks to explore it. It was an amazing adventure tour that was truly a highlight for our trip.

It is also worth noting that the Amazon forest covers large areas of the country. This makes it a great idea to find an eco-lodge for wildlife tours. Our complete article contains all the things you can do in Guyana.

Guyana: What to Eat

Guyanese culture is a combination of Indian, South American, Chinese, and Caribbean cultures. It is actually a mixture of all four cultures, and the food supports that. Chickpeas are a popular snack that is often enjoyed for breakfast. The fresh fruits were plentiful and I enjoyed every meal. Here are some examples of dishes:

Metegee is a dish that usually consists of a ground crop (cassava, potatoes) and some type of meat. This is a one-pot recipe that is often served with coconut milk to thicken the sauce. It is also known as Guyanese Creole, and is very popular with the locals.

The Guyana National Dish, Pepper Pot, is typically served around Christmas. This stew is thick and rich, made with cassareep (or some other meat). It is most often eaten at Christmas, but some people make it year-round.

Take some time to explore the splendid attractions of this place, and make your trip worthwhile. While booking your flights from Denver to Cartagena, don’t just fool around restaurants and tall buildings. Instead, take a good note of what’s under the table.
