Amber or Amer Fort and Palace
The name of the fort is given by the location where it stands – Amer, just about 10 km from Jaipur. Initially, Amer was the capital of the Kachhawaha( Rajput clan) till 1727, and its original name was Ambikeshwara. Raja Man Singh initiated the construction of this massive fort in the 16th century. Later, Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh expanded the fort. The fort is huge, and there are six main sections in it. There are palaces, courtyards, entry gates, and gardens. There are unique attractions which you should look out for – sheesh mahal, magic flower, etc.
Hawa Mahal
This is a beautiful palace is made of pink and red sandstone. It is shaped in the form of a crown/honeycomb and has 953 windows which were meant to keep the palace cool. This is why it is known as the Hawa Mahal. It was built by Sawai Pratap Singh especially for the royal women.
City Palace
This is where the King of Rajasthan had his seat. There are many buildings and palaces that are included in the City Palace. It was mainly built by Sawai Jai Singh II and was later expanded by his successors. The surviving royals of Rajasthan still occupy a certain part of the City Palace.
Jaigarh Fort
The Jaigarh Fort is built on Aravalli hills. It was built by Jai Singh II to keep Amer Fort safe from the enemies and has been named after him. It also has a huge cannon which was one of the biggest in the world back then. The cannon is named Jaivana. The Jaigarh Fort and Amer Fort are connected to each other through passages.
Jal Mahal
Built right in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake the Jal Mahal was built by Jai Singh II. Their entire area is surrounded by the Nahargarh hills which make the palace even more picturesque.
Sisodiya Rani Bagh
Bagh translates to garden, and this is what the Sisodiya Rani Bagh comprises of. It is a 6 km long garden that has pavilions, fountains, murals, and beautiful watercourses. Sisodiya name comes from the Sisodia clan of Suryavanshi Rajputs, and the garden was named after one of the queens who belonged to this clan.
Jantar Mantar
This place consists of 19 different astronomical instruments the construction of which was ordered by Sawai Jai Singh II. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is situated near the City Palace. One can see the astronomical positions without the use of a telescope.
